Windows 10 Insider Activation

Hey guys. Just built a r3 2200g pc. Asrock ab350m Pro 4 matx motherboard. I installed windows 10 home and signed with my microsoft account, which is an insider account, so it normally activated automatically. This time it's giving me activation error code 0x803f7001. When I look at the devices under my account online, it says "to be filled by OEM" is that why I can't activate? Any thoughts?

LG TV and Microsoft Film & TV app

Hello,

I purchased some movies from the MS store. Is there any way I can watch them on my LG Smart TV? I checked apps - nothing from MS.

I also don't want to run an HDMI cable from my laptop to the TV.

I saw Plex - but it is not free. I really don't want to have to pay to watch movies I already own on another device.

Help?

Thanks,

Mr. V

Sea of Thieves to get ‘new and improved’ quest system soon

We may get proper quests soon.
Sea of Thieves is an exploration-based pirate game that features great sailing mechanics, but the open-ended plot doesn't appeal to everyone. You have to find your own path and that doesn't sit well with those who prefer single-player experiences. Luckily, developer Rare is aware of these problems and Executive Producer Joe Neate promised a substantial overhaul of the quest system at the Fun & Serious Festival in Bilbao, Spain.

What does 2019 hold for Xbox? Here are our predictions for the New Year.

What does the future look like for Xbox and gaming at Microsoft? Our gaming editor Jez Corden has some predictions for 2019.
2018 was a year of preparation for Microsoft's gaming ambitions. The company spent a ton of money acquiring some big industry names in terms of employees and studios. That includes inXile Entertainment, led by Brian Fargo of classic Fallout fame. Obsidian, known for its unwavering dedication to RPGs. Ninja Theory, and its award-winning work on Hellblade, and Forza Horizon's Playground Games, which is arguably Microsoft's most successful non-Minecraft studio in recent times.
We've been getting rumors about next-gen consoles in the form of codenames Lockhart and Anaconda, seeing glimpses of "console-quality" game streaming via Project xCloud, and we also have a bit of an idea of what exclusive games are on the horizon.
Let's have a peek into the crystal ball and make some educated guesses on what 2019 may look like for Microsoft, considering where Redmond is now, and where it has been.

Help sell me on moving to Spotify for my streaming music needs

Hello Everyone.

Okay, long story short, I have my own personal music collection, all in OneDrive, that I have curated over a great many years but I have decided to give Spotify a try. The thing is, I always read and see everyone else using it but, currently, I am not entirely sold on it. So my question to you all is, what is the benefit of Spotify over my own personal music collection?

Immediately I see that Spotify doesn't have everything that I have in terms of songs and albums, but what it does have is higher quality in terms of bitrate. It's also more convenient to just fire up Spotify and start listening to music. However, I find it strange that in the Spotify desktop app you can add local files to it (so I can add my own collection inside Spotify basically). But why do I need to do this if the idea of having Spotify is to just use that as my one source of music? It seems weird to me.

Feedback and thoughts is most welcomed - why do you use Spotify?

Columnist Jason's Ward's extreme 2019 predictions for tech and Microsoft

2018 flew by faster than data zipping across low-latency 5G networks. As we enter 2019, let's ponder the coming year's tech-pectations and what Microsoft may have in store.
Every year techies, analysts, and leaders of multibillion-dollar companies set their eyes toward the future and try to anticipate, "What's next?" For some, this is a time to flex their analytical muscles. For others, it is an act of pure enjoyment.

Still for others, like CEOs of large tech companies including Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Qualcomm's Steve Mollenkopf, Google's Sundar Pichai, and Apple's Tim Cook, it is a necessary activity to help guide or modify multiyear strategic plans.

Yet, just as the leaders of the world's leading tech companies, my view of the future is shaped by current and emerging tech, consumer and market behavior, emerging trends, corporate strategies and investments, human nature, history and more. With that said here are some of my 2019 predictions.

Can't install app on Windows 10 from Microsoft store

Hi,

I am facing an issue with Windows 10 on Surface Pro 6 like many others seem to face. Unfortunately and despite many posts on the topic, I have failed so far to find a solution.
When trying to install the app "Amazon Video UK" on my Surface, I get the well known message "It looks like you don't have any applicable device(s) linked to your Microsoft account. To install, sign in on a device with your Microsoft account".
I am trying to install this app over accessing it through the web to be able to download content to watch offline.

1. The app is accessible here: http://bit.ly/2s1Icci
2. The Surface is currently logged in with my Microsoft account
3. The same account is used to register my Surface (http://bit.ly/1ukQ86e)
4. The Surface is fully updated with the latest hotfixes available
5. The app I am trying to install is fully compatible with Windows 10
6. I am currently logged in the UK and do not use a VPN
7. I can reproduce the problem on a second laptop running Windows 10
8. I am aware I have an alternative using Bluestacks but I would prefer running the native app on Windows 10 instead
9. Same problem happens with the US app "Amazon Prime Video US"
10. Because there are 100s of reviews for both UK and US app, I would assume this app works fine and the problem is with my account?

Any help would be appreciated 😊

Thanks
Christophe

Default language always changing on my Windows Phone - help?

Hello,

Hey Cortana stopped working on my Windows Phone recently

I am using Cortana across multiple devices in Canada.

On my phones I have the region and set to the US along with the formatting to match. This allows Cortana to work (or at least a lot better) and was fine for the longest time.

Going to Cortana settings would freeze on my phone.

I then went into settings - Time & Language - and speech, noticed the default language was Canadian English. I set it to default to US English - ta da! It all works now.

However it will stop working, and I will then go back to the Speech settings - it has reverted back to Canadian English. If I go back to default it to US English - all is well again.

Any idea what is going on?

Help?

Thanks,

Mr. V

Twitch probably shouldn't have done that.
When you're a streamer, it's probably not wise to promote another streamer. Advertisements for Ninja's New Year's Eve event showed up on streams of other people like "Dr DisRespect." operating system Windows 10
product being used Audacity 2.1.0

Steps used I have checked all the input levels in the control> audio section and they are all up. I have checked in the same section to make certain the mic is being recognized. I have checked control>sound> input and there is no other option except for line in. There is not a drop down menu to select a microphone. I have gone to the same area to test microphone and have no problems. I have gone to the same area and clicked on device properties as well and all seems to be in order.

I purchased this computer a month ago and am not aware of any updates to the OS or anything pertaining to anything else. I could and probably am wrong since when I recieved this computer there was NO other instructions except how to set it up, and when booting up the computer there were no notifications about an update.

I have contacted Dell and customer service is what you would expect. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated and very well recieved.

Thank you.
