I must be lucky

I am here in the Philippines on an extended vacation. I have a 950xl on the production ring, and my wife has a 950xl on the fast ring. We both get regular updates and have NO, I repeat NO issues what so ever with either phone. My 950xl sim1 is AT&T, sim2 is PH Smart; the Wife's 950 is on Globe. We use both devices all day long. NO Problems. We also have two VIVO V5's Android phones on Globe and Smart mostly because of a few local apps (Banks) here in the Philippines. Actually, As Far AS I am concerned the MS OS is better than Android period.......

Can't print. Print option missing in Photos app W10M CU.

A quick question. How do I print a picture in W10M? My mum has a photo on her Lumia 640 XL (CU non-Insider) she wants printed. The Print option in the Photos app is missing. After pressing the ellipses menu, all I see are "Slideshow; Set As; Add to album; File Information". It's the same for all photos. The printer is compatible (Epson WF-2650), connected on the same network and has been added to the phone via Settings>Devices>Bluetooth and other devices.

Please help.

Thinking about this phone (idol 4S)

Hello,

I would like to know more about this phone:

-Have you guys had any bad issues? (construction, failures, etc)
-Is battery life good enough? (read some bad reviews)
-Update "Schedule"
-Have the updates improved the phone
-Any useful comment

I had the 950xl and felt kind of bad, coming from previous great phones (HTC One M8, 920, 1520, 930).

Thanks

Bulging battery - is this even safe?

The battery in my 950 xl started misbehaving in the way others have noted (random shutdowns; not lasting long). Also noticed my back cover was no longer fitting closely around the camera lens. So I took it off and find that the battery is bulging likes it's swollen, so much that it is pushing the cover up a bit. What is going on?

I ordered a new battery on Amazon; but is it even safe to use the phone with this bulging battery for the week+ it will take the replacement battery to arrive? Any advice will be gratefully received.

I have an issue when using the mini display port connected to an external display. If I leave the display plugged in and put the tablet to sleep then turn it back on the screen is black, and the mouse cursor flickers, never letting me log in. If I leave it this way the computer freezes and I have to do a hard reboot (hold power and volume up).

I have already submitted this as a bug to Microsoft, just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

Charging Issue

Greetings!
*
Im having a charging issue with my HP Elite X3.

For the past few days I've been limited to charging it either using the provided HP Elite X3 Dock or an ancient Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate.
Attempts in charging it via the provided HP USB-C Cable on either of my many PCs USB Ports or the provided HP Traveler Charger won't charge it.
Apparently it also won't connect to a PC either - As someone over at the HP Forums mentioned.

Using a different USB-C Cable didn't work either.

The only other thing that DID work was the Dock's extension cable ( connected to the Dock )
Phone is on 10.0.15063.414

Any ideas what is going on?

Huawei MateBook X review: An impressively thin laptop with outstanding audio

Huawei's first attempt at a laptop is a MacBook-like Ultrabook for Windows 10 users. It's mostly well executed, too, but there are a few sacrifices.
Huawei is a relatively new name to the Windows 10 world, but the company made some waves last year with its positively received MateBook tablet 2-in-1. For 2017, that device has been rebranded as MateBook E, but it is the new MateBook X that is turning heads.
The MateBook X is Huawei's first attempt at a premium Ultrabook, and for the most part, the company succeeded. Not only the is MateBook X a well-rounded PC, it pushes boundaries to reach current design limits.
Does a fanless 2.3-pound (1.05 kg) laptop that is only 12.5mm thin bring anything new to the Windows 10 world? You bet. It's not for everyone, but this staggeringly small laptop has a target audience that will appreciate it.

Honest reccommendation needed..

My son starts college soon (8/20) and we have been planning on getting him a laptop for it.
He is taking New Media Design, so said laptop needs to run Adobe Creative Cloud.

Obviously many people jump right to "Oh you MUST get a mac. I know macs are great (even though over priced imo) and geared toward artists/designers etc.. But I am leaning toward the Surface simply for the fact that it has the pen/touchscreen and its super thin, light, and all around pretty cool lol

General use seems to be great on both (notes, docs, etc) so that can get thrown to the side..

So it comes to the art.. who has a surface for art and do you love it? any issues?

Side note/question: what can be done for security software - like anything for locating it/locking it etc (like you can with ipads etc)

Thanks!

Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer for Xbox One review: Is such a minor addition worth $15?

Diablo III just picked up a brand new DLC, breathing new life (or "unlife?") into the industry-leading action RPG.
Diablo III is an incredible action game from Blizzard Entertainment, available on Xbox One and PC. Not only does it fully support online and offline cooperative play, but it keeps seeing new features, content updates, and more, giving the game some serious longevity.
The previous DLC, Reaper of Souls, was a full-blown story expansion, complete with new characters, new cut-scenes, and an all-new hero class, the Crusader. The Necromancer DLC is nowhere near as beefy.
For $15, you get the all-new, fully-voiced Necromancer class, a series staple from Diablo II, and various cosmetic items. The DLC's launch also saw the addition of new areas for adventure mode and other new challenges for end-game players, all of which are free to existing players.
So, is the Necromancer DLC worth it? Read on, friends.

Disable notifications on the lock screen but keep sound notifications?

Hi all,
is there any way to disable lock screen notifications (all, not just banners), but to keep the notification sounds enabled?

I can only find this setting on my 950 (newest fast ring):

Well the setting is working: If I disable it, the lock screen does not show any notifications anymore (glance screen does), BUT it also disables all sound notifications (you do not hear als whatsapp, e-mail, etc. sounds anymore).

Is there any way to keep sounds on, but disable lockscreen notifications?

Ryzen or Kabylake? With an argument please

If I have to build a new PC right now, today, and this time only, which platform should I choose for gaming, Ryzen or Kabylake?. I know in the paper i5 7600k and i7 7700k are the best in performance for gaming. But if I choose those CPU it mean I have to using z270 mobo which very expensive in Indonesia (the cheapest around $250) and I have to bought after market cooler. But should I consider the non-k version? Like i5 7600 or below or i7 7700 and get b250 mobo? But, yeah I can't do any overclock.

On the other side, Ryzen is pretty pretty good price/performance in Indonesia. The R5 only cost $250 and I can get B350 for $120, also I can slap 3200mhz DDR4 RAM on that mobo, which I can't do on Intel side B250. And I get cooler on the box also, which I save money for cooler.

So, in the calculator, the Ryzen give me a good price with a little less performance of Intel. And now we're talking cores, threads, and investment. Which platform will give me lifetime investment. I dont want to change any CPU every 2 years. Does 6C/12T on Ryzen will he handy on the future? Because new games like Prey, The Surge, Rise of Tomb Raider, Doom, and you name it, will work flawlessly on multithread CPU, and yeah on higher clock too (like intel).

So anyone can help me choose? Thank you.

Do you think Microsoft should approach mobile carriers for selling through them Surface Pro LTE?

Hi Dan,

As I asked in the title, do you think it would be a good idea for Microsoft to start selling its Surface Pro with LTE through them?

I for one, because I'm from Romania and we do not have a Microsoft Store in our country, wouldn't mind to have to preorder the device at my mobile carrier (Vodafone) and wait a few weeks to have it delivered.

I think one more sales channel wouldn't hurt Surface Pro sales.

Which one Windows 10 retail or OEM that allow me to migrate the license?

I want to build my new PC, but I confuse to choose between retail version or OEM version of W10. I want to choose version that allow me migrate the license, you know, if I want to change my motherboard in the future. My last PC that I sold before cannot do this and it sucks. I have W10 from W7 free upgrade, and on the box it says "not OEM version". But when I deactivated on my old PC and try to activate on my friend's PC, it won't work.

So which one has a capability to migrate the license? Oh, FYI in Indonesia, my country, I couldn't find the *real* version of retail nor OEM. Because the pricing are so confusing. Some retailer selling W10 for 1.4 million Rupiah (100$) while in online shop they sell OEM version (which is written on their web, so I can't confirm that) between 200 thousand rupiah (16$) and 100$ too. So there are basically same prices for OEM and retail, which makes me doubt for buying. So anyone can help? For the prices first of course. Thank you.

Surface Pro 2017 - real life experience with the i5 4gb model?

The article on Surface Pro indicates 8gb model as the i5 you would want, if you are considering the i5 as necessary. I would like to know how true that is for i5 users that do heavy Office work, and perhaps layman's level of photoshop or video editing. I've done all of these with dinosaurs, and got the job done. With a blazer like the Surface Pro i5, is 8gb really essential?
Of course, the reason I'm asking is money - a thousand dollars is already a lot to me, so to increase that cost by a third for something that really isn't necessary for me would be silly. So, have you had experience with the i5 4gb and could you please share? Thank you!

Just one example of how asia will be chomping at the bit to play with windows on arm configurations, and experiment with it. Indiegogo campaign.

Campaign is for a 8.2 inch "Ultramobile PC/UMPC". 8/128 with 835 snapdragon and Windows on ARM, and apparently 12 hour battery life...(?).

Actually looks pretty swish as a "pocket laptop", and its got touch screen which may help make up for those horrible mousesticks these things seem to generally employ.

If it were me, i'd want the hinge to go 100 percent flat, or full 360, and I'd want active stylus. Especially as its not 100 percent cheap.

Wonder if you could actually use such a thing, as a smartphone replacement? (would work much better with a 360 flip. Theoretically WoA can make calls and texts right?

Anyway, it may not come out and succeed, but it probably will, and I expect we will see asia do some very interesting things with WoA.

Aven Colony review: A sci-fi city builder for Xbox One where the bugs are scarier than the aliens

Aven Colony takes the city building genre into space. But does this game reach for the stars, or fall into a black hole?
After the success of Cities: Skylines on Xbox One, I've found myself enamored with the city-sim genre ever since. I've previously written about Surviving Mars, which is an in-development space city builder heading to Xbox One, from the same publisher as Cities: Skylines. I've also previously reviewed Planetbase, which is a modest take on what it might be like to attempt to build a colony on another planet, complete with all the hazards you might expect with space faring.
I found Planetbase to be an addictive title in short bursts but found the lack of creativity possible in the game to be a little frustrating. Thus, I had high hopes for Aven Colony to achieve where Planetbase didn't. Aven Colony is now available for Xbox One and PC, and while it's certainly deeper than Planetbase, crippling bugs prevent it from achieving its true potential.

With a new approach to storytelling, loads of new content and some major changes here's everything we've learned so far about Destiny 2.
The latest iteration of Bungie's flagship shooter franchise, Destiny 2, is now just a few months away from hitting our consoles. Following its official unveiling back in March and more recently, an in-depth gameplay showcase, we now have an idea of how the universe has evolved throughout its transition to a sequel.
But does Destiny 2 bring enough changes to justify a whole new title? And what does a new game mean for players invested the original game? Here's everything we know so far about Destiny 2.

What's new with Microsoft Fluent Design System 'wave one' for Windows 10

Here are all the Fluent Design changes you'll be seeing starting with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Windows 10 is getting a massive user interface facelift later this year with the release of the Microsoft Fluent Design System, known previously as Project NEON.
Fluent Design is a new system that moves from a traditional boring flat design to a modern design language that delivers more immersive and engaging experiences using new multi-dimensional design techniques. The majority of the changes include subtle additions, such as transparency and blur, three-dimensional perspective and motions, and a system that works across the full range of devices.
Unlike previous design system releases, not everything will be available at once. Instead, Microsoft is planning to push new features of Fluent Design gradually in different waves, with "wave one" arriving with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
In this Windows 10 guide, to make it clear what to expect, we'll highlight the Fluent Design features Microsoft will introduce in the first wave.

To Alcantara, or not to Alcantara?

So, I just got my new Surface Pro last week. I feel like it's not even a question whether or not you should buy a Type Cover — if you want to get any sort of real work done, you need one. However, Microsoft makes two versions, the regular ol' Type Cover and the Signature Type Cover, with Alcantara fabric. (If you need a refresher on what exactly Alcantara is, and what it's good for, read this.) The only different between the two covers, besides the Alcantara, is the price. The Signature one costs $30 more. But is it worth it?

I bought both covers, with the intention of returning the one I liked less. And that's just what I did. I honestly don't love the Alcantara, because it kind of looks "tacky" or something to me. But I like the plastic one even less, because it feels cheap and rubbery, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I really like the keyboards themselves, but I'm talking the materials they're made with.

In summary, I'm not in love with Alcantara but I still picked that option over the other one.

What say you? Are you an Alcantara fan or foe?

Surface Pro 3 Problems after 15063.447 Update (Serious Issues)

Hey all,

I installed the latest non-insider cumulative update on my Surface Pro 3 yesterday (Build: June 27, 2017—KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447))

After the update I'm experiencing some crippling problems...

I leave my machine docked on my desk in the Surface dock, with a second display hooked up to the display port output. I use a Surface keyboard with the fingerprint sensor, and the newest Surface Arc mouse.

I use Skype for Business as my desk phone, so I don't have the machine sleep or hibernate when I lock it -- I simply have the screen lock and display turn off when it's locked.

Since yesterday, these two things are happening:

1) Whenever the display powers down (which happens a few minutes after locking the device), I can't get back to the homescreen. The screen is black, and the mouse pointer is on the screen flickering, but the display is not showing my screen... I know it's there, because if i enter my password and hit enter i get a brief flash of the screen, but then it just returns to a black screen with a mouse pointer that is flickering... I've had to start manually soft resetting the machine EVERY time...

2) The device has started randomly rebooting... This happened in the middle of a work call this morning.

I reviewed my power and lock screen settings and nothing appears off. I uninstalled the update but it did not fix the problem, so I reinstalled the update.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Pen support in the Surface Laptop makes more sense than you might think

Like many of you, I thought pen support in the Surface Laptop was a silly idea, until I needed it.
When Microsoft announced that the Surface Laptop supports pen input, I couldn't help but wonder why. Why put pen support into a device that doesn't transform into a something where pen makes sense? I simply couldn't understand it. Even in the demo that Panos Panay did on stage, using the Surface Pen on the Surface Laptop looked like a terrible user experience. Do you prefer physical or digital Xbox One games?

An interesting discussion is taking place on Windows Central's Xbox forums revolving around a single question — Do you prefer digital or physical Xbox One games?
The question is an interesting one, specifically, because Microsoft attempted to shift users over to digital with the original Xbox One's launch, by making the console always-online, while adding limitations on how often you could trade used game discs. The trade-off would've been digital library sharing for up to ten friends and family members, and an assault on the used games market, which game developers and publishers feel is eating into their profit margins. The backlash against the limitations led to Microsoft scrapping the system entirely.
Digital continues its rise regardless, however, with physical retailers like GameStop and GAME in the UK struggling for survival. Yet, for all the convenience of digital licenses, there's still something enchanting about collecting physical game discs, in a similar way that has seen vinyl records return to popularity.

Available for Windows 10 PC, the free game sports decent 3D graphics and has you facing off against a fleet of rather aggressive boats. Submarine Patrol 3D supports both touch and keyboard controls and for the most part is a fun time waster of a game. hi

I'm new at this. Hope that everyone is doing fine. Hello from Callahan, Fl

from Windows Central Forums http://ift.tt/2tt7PWd
via IFTTT

I returned my New Surface Pro, and here is why:

I really like the new surface pro, but I'm disappointed by the lack of a usb-c and a thunderbolt 3 port. The coming dongle should replace the usb-c functionality but I'm sure it can't enable TB3 speeds. So I'm tempted to wait for the new surface book to see what they do with it.

Tablet and pen functionality is important to me, and after walking through the MS store yesterday it's apparent that no one has really mastered the tablet form factor like the surface line. (even the Surface Book clipboard makes for a great tablet experience), for the creative market its really a high priority, and a distinguishing feature.

So here are my predictions and why I think it's a good idea for me to wait...

Both the Surface Laptop, and new Pro were sideline releases this year, nothing like 2015. I think it's because there will be at least two more releases this fall:

One will be the follow up to the Surface 3, an ultra thin and light tablet (maybe 10", smaller tablets seem to have failed at this point). It will run on ARM and set the bar for OEMs on what an ultramobile always connected PC can be. I would also like to see a resurgence of the touch keyboard, just because I think it could fit well with the ultraportable aspect of this line, and compete with the iPad smart covers for thinness. I believe this is also the reason MS has started branding the Pro as a Laptop rather than a tablet. They are making room for their next product line.

Secondly I think they will release a follow up to the Surface Book. Having released the Surface Laptop, they will have to position the Surface Book differently as powerhouse Laptop, maybe upgrade it to a Quad-Core CPU, keep or upgrade the current dGPU and include Thunderbolt 3 support, increase the size of the keyboard if necessary, but make it the true professional/enthusiast machine. And don't loose the signature clipboard feature. I think releasing the surface pro separately from the Book this year was a strategy designed to force us to mentally separate the two generationally, so that feature differences (like usb-c) wouldn't hurt the Pro line. This also makes the timing of the Surface Connect ->USB-C dongle much more understandable.

Neither of these two products would compete with Microsoft current line. They each would bring something new to Microsoft offering, and set the stage for a surface phone release next year.

That's why I returned my Surface Pro (2017) and I'm keenly awaiting this fall...

Windows 10 intermittent black screen

I updated my Dell PC to Windows 10 as soon as it became available. It worked great. In February after one of the regular updates the system developed an intermittent black screen problem. After a time of perfect operation the system would lose its home page/application bar. Applications that were already running would continue to operate but once ended would not be visible. The only way to fix the problem is to switch off the PC and reboot. Or alternatively to wait (10's of minutes) for the system screen to recover . I've tried all the published potential fixes (reload driver, change power settings, unplug all hardware apart from the screen, boot in safe mode, trouble shoot etc.) but nothing works.

Are Windows blogs basically BS?

I have been reading some headlines recently, and thinking about how, one blog picks up on a small kernel of truth, interprets it, and all the other blogs copy that blog. And then this Chinese whispered distortion becomes accepted as fact.

And I just thought to myself, we really are living in a post-truth world. Maybe I'd have realised that already if I lived in another country. But it seems to me, that windows blogs have windows fans jumping and shadows and believing in faeries.

I just wish there was somewhere that stuck firmly to hard facts, and put the speculation in clearly speculative language.

For example, a member of the insider team said recently of windows 10 mobile "there are no current plans to move it from feature2" and "don't make a big deal of feature2" more or less. Now consider that the head of the insiders group recently tweeted that the insider team is not privy to anything beyond their current projects and workload.

I've seen people report "No more feature updates for win10m" and fans do all sorts of wild speculation based on this - which I DO NOT want to get into.

But the point being the original story was more or less "Is win10m coming off feature2 soon? Not that I know of", and "Don't freak out about feature2", and the response was basically a whole series of articles freaking out about feature2.

The same thing happens with rumours about new hardware, or talk about cshell, or almost anything.

Thurott reported that an insider had claimed "new hardware is being made, and paired with it a new _branch_ of windows 10 mobile". He somehow spun that into a "reboot" and how win10m is over.

He's not a happy man, and I can understand fan scepticism, but surely the art of unbiased journalism, and accuracy of reporting, if it still existed when the net took off, died in a large pit, the moment blogger and tweeters took it over.

The tiny gets exploded into mountains, and the storm is brewed in a tea cup.

I was a Fast Ring Insider for Mobile back then and now I realized i have not been waiting for updates and sending feedbacks for months now.

Development suggestion to manage system and application event history

Hi,

On the right hand side of the Windows 10 system tray there is an event notification icon, where the user can check system and application events.

My suggestion for the Windows 10 developers is to create an application notification history, so earlier notifications can be viewed and managed as well.

Regards,
Tibor

Missing LTE Bands in AT&T Lumia 950

Hi,

I recently bought a AT&T Lumia 950 for usage in Taiwan since it's much cheaper than local variant and I've read on the official site that it supports LTE band 3, 7, 8 and 28(http://ift.tt/2u12LVW)

However, when I check the band locking setting in field test(dial ##2382 # in the phone app), I can't find band 8 and band 28, which should be there AFAIK.
wp_ss_20170628_0001.jpg

Could anyone with an AT&T Lumia 950 go to the field test and confirm if there's band 8 and 28? Or does anyone know how to solve this problem(by flashing ROM etc.)?

Thanks in advance.

What is the expected life time of a Surface Pro 4?

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 i5 with the chicklet style keyboard for a bit more than 5 years and the battery is now completely shot. I can change the battery and continue to use it for a few more years as I only use the laptop for mainly typing, surfing and light gaming (old nostalgia invoking games), but I am thinking of getting a surface to replace it.
Will the surface pro 4 offer similar lifetime (a minimum of 5 years) and reliability as the Thinkpad?

Windows 10 black screen after login

Hello,
My PC was experiencing random, repeated freezes and shutdowns. I couldn't find any evidence of a hardware issue, so after a while I decided to reset the PC (preserve documents and files). After finishing this process, I was able to log into Windows. However, after the login page, a completely black screen is shown. I can use Ctrl-Alt-Del to access task manager - it shows up normally - or to restart Windows. But every time I return to Windows, I get the same black screen. I tried resetting it again but no change.
I found an article from Mauro that seemed to reference something similar, but he had a taskbar and possibly also a Start menu. He mentioned RunOnce.exe in processes or services but I haven't found that.
I don't think it's a video driver issue because I can see the login screen normally. But even if it is, how would I access that? The black screen comes back even if I boot in Safe Mode.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Should I uninstall the regular DropBox app after putting on the UWP app?

I've used the regular Windows DropBox application for at least a year. I've learned from Windows Central, that DropBox has made a UWP version of their app. I've downloaded it and installed it. Does that mean I should uninstall the Windows application?

Windows on ARM64

Windows on ARM is coming late this year to notebooks, tablets and servers.

In terms of notebooks and tablets, I wonder what surface product MSFT will "lead" with, and what their partner OEMs have planned?

I thought it might be fun to speculate on what shape this new market will take :)

Windows 10 build 16232 discussion (Redstone 3, Fast)

Windows 10 build 16232 discussion (Redstone 3, Fast)
WC: http://ift.tt/2siTNGu
MS: http://ift.tt/2sjn8kc

New on PC:
  • Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Improvements:
  • Giving you access to all the rich features in Microsoft Edge while using Application Guard: Building on our work in Build 16188, we have added support for Microsoft Edge data persistence while using Application Guard. Once enabled, data such as your favorites, cookies, and saved passwords will be persisted across Application Guard sessions. The persisted data will be not be shared or surfaced on the host, but it will be available for future Microsoft Edge in Application Guard sessions.
  • How to take advantage of Data Persistence when using Microsoft Edge with Application Guard: You enable Data Persistence for Microsoft Edge in Application Guard using Group Policy. Note that Data Persistence for Application Guard with Microsoft Edge sessions is not enabled by default. To enable data persistence, close all Microsoft Edge windows and update the Windows Components > Windows Defender Application Guard policy to turn on data persistence. After the Group Policy settings are set, next launch New Application Guard Window from the Microsoft Edge menu. Then browse to your favorite web site and add it to Favorites in Microsoft Edge.
  • How to find your Favorites after you close Edge with Application Guard: Since you have enabled Data Persistence using Group Policy for Application Guard, the site you saved to your Favorites will be available for later use, with Microsoft Edge in Application Guard, even after reboots as well as build to build upgrades of Windows.
  • Read more about what the Windows Defender Application Guard team has been working on in this latest Insider Preview by visiting this community page
  • Introducing Exploit Protection:
  • We've heard your feedback regarding the upcoming EMET EOL, so we're excited to announce that starting with this build you can now audit, configure, and manage Windows system and application exploit mitigation settings right from the Windows Defender Security Center! You don't need to be using Windows Defender Antivirus to take advantage of these settings.
  • After upgrading to this build, you can find these settings by opening the Windows Defender Security Center and going to the App & browser control page:
  • Either right-click the icon in the notification area on the taskbar and click Open, or search via the Start menu for Windows Defender Security Center
  • From Windows Defender Security Center, click on App & browser control and then scroll to the bottom of the resulting screen to find Exploit Protection
  • More detailed documentation will follow on Microsoft Docs, and remember that Exploit Protection is a work-in-progress and might not be fully functional just yet!
  • Introducing Controlled folder access in Windows Defender Antivirus:
  • In this build, we're making it easier for you to protect valuable data from malicious apps and threats, such as ransomware. To enable the feature, search for and open the Windows Defender Security Center from Start, go to the Virus & threat protection settings section, and set the switch to On.
  • Controlled folder access monitors the changes that apps make to files in certain protected folders. If an app attempts to make a change to these files, and the app is blacklisted by the feature, you'll get a notification about the attempt. You can complement the protected folders with additional locations, and add the apps that you want to allow access to those folders.
  • Allowing apps can be useful if you're finding a particular app that you know and trust is being blocked by the Controlled folder access feature. Click Allow an app through Controlled folder access and locate and add the app you want to allow.
  • You can add additional folders to the list of protected folders, but you cannot alter the default list, which includes folders such as Documents, Pictures, Movies, and Desktop. Adding other folders to Controlled folder access can be handy, for example, if you don't store files in the default Windows libraries or you've changed the location of the libraries away from the defaults.
  • Click Protected folders in the Controlled folder access area and enter the full path of the folder you want to monitor. You can also enter network shares and mapped drives, but environment variables and wildcards are not supported (for right now).

Fixed on PC:
  • We fixed the issue that was causing updating to the latest build to fail and roll back to the previous build if you had the .NET 3.5 Framework installed. You should no longer need to uninstall .NET 3.5 before trying to update to this build.
  • We fixed an issue for those with certain languages installed in the last flight where ctfmon.exe would go into a crash loop, resulting in typing in the Start menu and UWP apps becoming impossible.
  • We've listened to feedback and in Windows Defender Security Center you will soon have the option to dismiss recommendations (yellow badged items). In this build, you will see the upcoming addition however it is under construction and not up and running yet. Stay tuned and we'll let you know when we have it finished.
  • We fixed an issue where some games like Mass Effect 3 would crash if you used Alt + TAB after 5 minutes of game play.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in Word 2016 crashing if you attempted to ink in it.
  • We fixed an issue where using the new Ctrl + Win + C hotkey to enable and disable color filters would unexpectedly open Settings.
  • We fixed an issue from the last flight where auto-complete in the URL bar of Microsoft Edge might fail on some devices – searching for a partial string instead of the autocompleted text. This fix should also address the feedback some of you were reporting where Cortana sometimes couldn't keep up with typing on that flight and the letters would end up out of order.
  • We fixed an issue where the File Explorer Ribbon assets were blurry if the window's DPI was not equal to the system DPI.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in apps that start with X, V or Q being incorrectly categorized in Start on Polish builds.
  • We've moved the new Video Playback Settings page to now be listed under the Apps category, and have fixed the issues on the page where the video and battery dropdown weren't displaying correctly.
  • We fixed an issue with the XAML Acrylic Brush that could result in certain apps, for example Maps, occasionally crashing due to attempting to load acrylic brushes while the app was suspended.
  • We fixed a rare condition that could result in Start menu appearing to flash/flicker continuously.

Broken on PC:
  • Your PC may fail to update to this build with an 0x80070643 and rolls back to the previous build. We are investigating.
  • We're continuing to investigate reports that the battery status on certain laptops isn't updating while the device is unplugged. If you think you are seeing this, please send in feedback via Feedback Hub and use the capture feature when logging your feedback so we can get your logs.
  • You may notice some of your inbox apps are now displaying a name that looks like "ms-resource:" and are listed at the bottom of Start. We're investigating. In the meantime, the app should still launch normally, it's only the name resource that's impacted.
  • Some UWP apps such as Twitter will crash on launch.
  • Xbox Live in-game experiences may fail to load. These include gamer profiles, achievement details, and other dialogs that may pop up on top of an Xbox Live-enabled game.
  • Please avoid doing a PC reset via Settings > Update & security > Recovery and choosing "Remove everything". This may put your device into a reboot loop.
  • Task Manager may hang on launch on this build.

This build and version is the latest Redstone 3 build in testing for Desktop Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things Windows 10 build 16232, discuss it here.

Basic tip

If you're having any issues with your device, try a reset.

Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC > This provides you with two options: 1. Keep my files and 2. Remove everything

Keep my files

Does just as its name describes. If you choose the setting you can reinstall Windows 10 without having to back up any of the pictures, videos, music and documents that you have stored on it. You absolutely should back up these things just in case, but you shouldn't need to use that back up. Keep My Files requires a certain amount of free space on your device. As such, it may be unavailable to you if your device is stuffed with a lot of files. If you get an error message asking for more storage when you choose this option you'll need to back up your files and choose the remove everything option. You could also delete any files that you aren't using on your device and try the option again. This option will take longer than the other options.

Remove Everything

Deletes every file, every setting from your device and gives you a blank copy of Windows 10 to work with. You'll need to add any files you have backed up to your device again.

This build and version is the latest Redstone 3 (?) build in testing for Mobile Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things build 15228, discuss it here.

[NOTE]Tip: Check out this thread before posting
http://ift.tt/1The2qc[/NOTE]
Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don't find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
[/INFO]

Windows 10 build 16232 for PC and 15228 for Mobile now rolling out for Insiders

A new week, a new Insider Preview build for PC and Mobile. Build 16262 rolling out for PCs, and 15228 for Mobile. Let's see what's new!
Another week, another Insider Preview build for us to get our hands into. Today's build is 15228 for Mobile and 16232 for PC, and as usual is packing new features and changes for PC and nothing worthy of note for Mobile.

The last two insider Preview builds for PC have been jam packed with new features, so today's build won't be as huge as the builds we've had previously, but there are still several noteworthy changes.
