Very slow wireless display mirror

Can I use a simple old-school type remote on a Media Center PC?

I would like a simple remote that would emulate keyboard presses or windows commands to my Win 7 PC, to control Play/Pause, FF/Rewind and Volume.

I thought of getting an older Apple TV Remote or something similar, and an IR receiver for the PC for around 15 bucks each, but how do I convert the remote signals to the proper keyboard presses?

Is there some kind of simple software that I can use to have the PC 'learn' the commands of a remote and have that perform a PC function? Like to point the remote at the sensor, hit the remote button, and then tell the software to type 'this' key when that signal comes in? Something tells me this has been solved years ago but I can't find out how to do it.

PSU for Dell Venue Pro 11 docking station K10a

Sorry to be a nuisance. Please can anyone advise:
I have been able to obtain a docking station for the above model of tablet on ebay, but it is coming with no PSU.
I would like to get a PSU separately for it, but am not sure what size hole or whether I need a specific eg voltage ampage etc input/output.

After my Lumia 930, should I buy a new Lumia 950?

Hello. I have a Lumia 930 for 3 years and it's starting to give some problems with the charger port. I'm now thinking what I should do when the device life ends:

I have all my hope focused in the future Andromeda Device, and I don't like nothing Android and iOS, I really prefere to hang up with a Windows Phone device. So, until Andromeda is released, my options are:

1 - Buy a new (or good second handed) Lumia 950.
2 - Buy an Android device.

I prefere first one. Do you think it's a good idea? Is Lumia 950 working well currently?

PD: Apps are not a problem for me, I really use a few of them and are in Windows Mobile too, I just want a device that works good, smooth, etc., and continue with the Windows experience.

Surface Pro 4 Charger Issues

Good morning,
I have a baby daughter. I also have a Surface Pro 4 charger. One sad day, the bedroom door was left open, and the baby found my charger before I found her. Now, four of the twelve contact pins (one in each group of three) is covered in that green-black "rust." I've tried a dry micro fiber cloth and dabbing with Isopropyl alcohol... But I've only succeeded in being able to charge the tablet (slowly) when it's not being used. If I use the tablet, it doesn't charge at all. Any suggestions?

I'm interested in Windows on ARM because of the portability and battery life. I already have a desktop computer for demanding tasks and I was hoping the HP Envy X2 would do the job when I'm on campus for reading PDFs, browsing the web and streaming videos. Back up of Dell Venue Pro 11

With my desktop (windows 7) computer, I have always used Easeus To Do backup free to make an system image of the hard drive so that in case of hard drive failure I am not faced with disaster.

However , in regard to the Dell Venue Pro 11, which I obtained recently, please does anyone know if this software can be used to back up that system too, or is there some other back up solution needed.

I feel I need to do a back up somehow in case a hard drive failure were to occur. Any advice would be appreciated please.

Installing Windows 10 on my Macbook Pro

Hello Friends,

for work purposes, I need to install windows 8 or 10 (preferable) on my MacBook Pro 13 inches mid 2012. My question is ...out of the three option (see below)
✓ Create a Windows 7 or later install disk
✓ Download the latest Windows support software from Apple
✓ Install Windows 8 or later version

the third option "Install or remove Windows 7 or later" is disable for me. So, during the installation, I finish the first step, after some problems, I finished the 2nd step and then it stops. nothing happens.

my question was "How to enable the third option". I just talked with apple support advisor through chat. and she said the windows 10 iso file is 2007 or older and hence the option is disabled.

My info is processor - 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5 Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I have tried every possible way ...nothing worked hence coming here for help.

Why is my computer not starting from my SSD?

I just got a new samsung SSD that works like a charm, but I have to launch it from an option after windows goes through it's recovery mode.
I have legacy turned on and it shows up, but it doesn't launch from it.
It launches from UEFI and says that UEFI is higher priority than legacy.
I have an HP ENVY x360 so my BIOS setting is F10 and my change boot order settings is F9. When I go into the boot order settings, I can choose my Samsung SSD, but it just displays a blinking white line.
I hope someone can help me, I can start from it after going through windows recovery, but I would love for it to just start and not go through Windows Recovery.

what is the file path to control panel items

FIRST OF ALL: this whole thing started while trying to do something for convenience that i did not think would be so complicated. Is it necessary? NO. Nor is it a problem. It is now a matter of sure curiosity and my 'need to know'

Hope someone out there is willing to delve into this with me!

Goal: I would like to create a folder portal on my desktop (using Stardock Fences v. 3.0.9.11) to display the contents of the control panel without making a shortcut to each and every item.

(side notes on creating folder portal in Fences is at bottom of post)

My thought is that i need the path to the control panel folder which i hope will contain the corresponding .cpl files.
**HERE is where my knowledge base ends.

-- Because i do not know where the folder is for the control panel, i have no idea the structure within and/or if it is possible to access the individual components from that location. --

Creating a folder portal in the Fences app is very simple:
Pretty straight forward...

Folder Portals (desc) Access the contents of any folder directly
from the desktop in a fully customizable view

There are several ways to create a Folder Portal:
1. Hold Alt while drag/dropping a (older on to your desktop.
2. Draw a rectangle on your desktop. Choose 'Create Folder Portal
Here' from the menu that appears.
3. Right click any folder and choose the option 'Show this (older on
the desktop'.

So - to my much smarter tech friends in this forum... Is what i want to do possible??

Both Nintendo and Sony are creating miniaturized versions of their first-ever consoles. Should Microsoft be next?
In November of 2016, Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Classic console to the world — a miniature version of its original gaming system bundled with several of Nintendo's most popular classic games. This mini console was a massive hit, and it became clear that there was a strong market for them.
Fast-forward to 2018, and Sony has announced the creation of its own mini console, the PlayStation Classic. With both Nintendo and Sony creating a product within this niche, it begs the question: Should Microsoft follow suit and create an "Xbox Classic" based on the original Xbox? Here are some quick pros and cons of such a move.

Not ready for Windows 10 October 20118 Update yet? Here's how to delay it.

Windows 10 is getting a refresh, but if you don't want to upgrade immediately, we'll show you how to delay version 1809.
Microsoft is expected to release its second semi-annual update, the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809), at some point in October, which means that new features, improvements, and tweaks are on the way.
Initially, only newer devices known to be compatible will receive the new update. Then, in the weeks ahead, the October Update will expand more broadly to other devices. Using this gradual rollout process allows the company to provide a more reliable deployment while also ensuring that if any unexpected issues occur, they don't quickly spread to a large number of computers.
If you're comfortable running the current version, or you'd like to wait a little longer to make sure it's safe to upgrade, there are at least three ways to delay the Windows 10 October 2018 Update while still getting service updates.

Apps added in ready to install

I just did a fresh install on my brand new lenovo yoga 530 and use a local account.

But in the store there are apps in the ready to install list even though that should be empty. I havent logged into an account yet.

The apps are

twitter

candy crush saga

candy crush soda saga

hidden city: object adventure.

How can i get rid of this junk? And will they carry over into my account if i log in on the store?

There are also listings for dolby acces and windows 10 home but i dont mind those.

New Surface Pro 4, can't do anything

Hi,

I bought a brand new Surface Pro 4 yesterday with Type cover and a Pen. I upgraded from Windows 10 1709 to Windows 10 1803 today. Why still 1709, I don't know.

I started Windows updates 2 hours ago. The first reboot is going on with message "Getting Windows ready, Don't turn of your computer" staying like that for nearly 2 hours.

How long do I need to wait. My other machines (from HP, Dell, Lenovo) did not take that long.

Please help.

Server IP address could not be found

I get the error "server IP address could not be found" when I try to open any page in Chrome, despite being connected successfully to my wifi network.

In Internet Explorer the error is "temporary DNS error", error code: "INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND"

I've tried all the suggestions here to no effect:

When I run the Windows troubleshooter on the network I get: WiFi doesn't have a valid IP configuration - Not Fixed

Windows 10 on Surface Pro 4

Other things to note: internet works fine on iPhone. Internet works on PC when hotspotting from iPhone

First time using this modem/network and first time using laptop in Canada. I have just moved from Australia.

Bizarrely, some pages work: yahoo, google and YouTube are ones I've tried that work.

Should I buy a Windows phone in 2018 that was bought in 2106 but not used?

My old android (Samsung) is ready for replacement. My sister offered me her new-in-the-box Windows phone that she bought maybe in 2016? She got her regular phone wet so bought the Windows phone maybe two years ago. Then she managed to dry out her original phone and just kept using that and never even activated the new one. I don't want to spend a lot of money, nor to cheat her if she could get any real money for this from someone else. But it seems like Windows phones are not supported any more? I'd never actually heard of them.

Battle Royale Showdown: CoD Black Ops 4 Blackout vs. PUBG

One definitely outshines the other.
A few days ago, Activision released the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 "Blackout" battle royale multiplayer beta. While that sounds like a mouthful, the test was a success and the developer even allowed more gamers to participate in each match. Just like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), individual players or teams start off with absolutely no weapons. Scavenging abandoned buildings and sheds is necessary to accumulate guns and health packs.

What might Halo Infinite's microtransactions look like?

We know Halo Infinite has microtransactions, but what will they be like?
Halo Infinite is the next big Halo game coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, but a recent a job application description for 343 Industries revealed a potentially disappointing development: the game will have microtransactions.
This immediately got fans worried that Infinite would follow in Star Wars Battlefront II's controversial footsteps, but luckily, 343 Industries' Studio Head Chris Lee spoke out on Twitter, clarifying that Infinite will not have paid loot boxes.

Keep the faith, it's appreciated! We're still working through final plans and will share more when we are ready, but I can definitely say that Halo Infinite will not include real-money loot boxes.

This is quite the relief to everyone interested in the title, but it does beg the question: if Halo Infinite doesn't have paid loot boxes, than what will its microtransaction system look like? I did some theorizing, and these are what I consider to be the most likely possibilities.

Microsoft 'would love' a cross-platform Minecraft on PlayStation

In what was a bit of a surprise, Sony announced it would open cross-play to Fortnite between Xbox One and PlayStation earlier this week, paving the way for more titles.
2018 has undoubtedly been the year of Fortnite. The battle royale title has utterly exploded this past year, defying demographic boundaries, and even system boundaries, becoming one of the first games to feature cross-play between Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices. There's one notable exception there.
Sony declined to join the cross-play party, receiving waves of criticism in the process. The backlash was even covered in the mainstream media, due to Fortnite's popularity. Other developers of prominent online games chimed in with criticism also, notably Rocket League, and Microsoft noted that the reason the cross-play focused Bedrock Edition of Minecraft wasn't hitting PlayStation was due to this restriction.
Sony has since recanted, opening up Fortnite to cross-play for the first time while paving the way for other titles to join in the fun. So we got back in touch with Microsoft to inquire about the possibility of Minecraft players, finally, being able to link up across every major platform. Redmond's response was promising.

How to download music to Window Phone SD card

I have Lumia 950 with Windows 10 mobile.

I keep all my music in the music folder on OneDrive. These mp3s automatically show up in Grove music on my phone. But they are not downloaded to the phone or SD card.

I set new music to download to SD card. But I'd like to have all existing music downloaded from my OneDrive to the SD card.

If I slow click a song in Grove, a menu pops where I can download that song. But is there a 'download all' option? So I don't have to download each song individually?
