TV Tuner

First post on this forum. I just realized I can watch my OTA via my One S. My tuner is by Terk, not a supported brand. Is there a way around this for control, import IR commands? Worst case I could program my remote to enter the commands on the corresponding buttons when Xbox is the source. But I'd rather keep it within Xbox.

New youtube sucks on edge

I'm sure many of you have noticed probably the past month, anytime you visit youtube, you get an annoying blue banner at the top recommending you install chrome. Now with the recent youtube update, edge performs even worse on youtube.

It runs much better on insider build 16278, but on creators update 1703 it's pretty bad.

What do you think?

Updating Laptop to CU....need info

I'm using the Update Assistant to update a laptop running AU to CU. The problem is I'm on a metered connection and quickly running out of available data.
I was told that an esd file, in the region of 2.2Gb, would be required to update my x86 rig, but it's approaching 3Gb with seemingly no end in sight.

The full name of the partial esd file is: 15063.0.170710-1358.rs2_release_svc_refresh_CLIENTCombinedSL_RET_x86fre_en-us.esd

Can anyone say definitively what the final size of this download is? Much thanks

Tekken 7 Ultimate Bowling DLC

The controls are so frustrating my wife and I couldn't get through a 3rd set of 10 frames.

And for the life of me, I can't figure out why they didn't add achievements for this DLC??? However, hind sight being 20/20 and all, half way glad there are no new achievements. Not sure I could stomach grinding any achievements on this mode with such bad controls.

Hope they fix it with an update, but I'm not holding my breath. Huge let down.

My Life Journey With Microsoft Has Come To An End & I'd Like To Share It

Hey everyone,
As you might have guessed, this post will come off more like a rant than anything else. But I wanted to get this off my chest somewhere and what better place to do that than our lovely forums.
To start with I just wanted to make it clear that I will always be using Windows 10. Right now, it's on my Surface Pro 3 which has been holding up for quite a while and I am not planning on replacing it anytime soon. I can't believe that they already released 2 versions after it. It's the second-best Tech investment Ive ever made.
The reason I am saying second best is because there is another piece of hardware that stole my heart forever. That is the Lumia 920.
Before I dive deeper into it I just wanted to mention that before the Lumia 920 I owned a Nokia 6680, N95 8Gb edition and a Nokia N8 respectively. Every time I owned one of these handsets I was in love and they were perfect for me at the time. the build quality, the OS and its features. Yet, nothing beat the Lumia 920.

Lumia 920 was a marvel to look at and to use. I loved switching it on. I loved Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 so very much. The hardware was beautiful and I don't think anyone could argue with that. a few years later the Lumia 920 just couldn't keep up and that was a few months after windows 10 mobile was out. I wasn't sold by the Lumia 950 and 950 XL at first. I had to use a Galaxy S6 as a "temporary" phone hoping that Microsoft will get their next flagship that never came right. Galaxy S6 ended up being my primary phone for a while before someone decided to spill some liquid over it earlier this year and it died. I had the choice of getting a new android or going with windows 10 mobile for the first time and give it a chance. I was very tempted by the HUGE price cut of the Lumia 950 XL. I liked that its specs were somehow good for the cheap price and I decided to buy one. Keep in mind that the way I thought about was that this was a flagship phone and the it IS premium. It just had a huge price cut due to its bad marketing.
Although I always kept up-to-date with windows 10 news and was always part of the community. I must admit that I missed windows phones so very much. I missed the start screen with its live tiles. I missed the windows onscreen keyboard that made me WANT to type on a phone.
Fast forward a few months and the phone slipped from my pocket once. It fell face down and the glass screen as shattered along with my dreams. By the time the new glass screen came in, the broken glass screen managed to damage the digitizer and the whole phone was junk before I could fix it. oh, and I also invest in a Microsoft display dock a month ago,

I felt betrayed and deceived (almost as if someone cheated on me). I put my faith in Microsoft and I had my fingers crossed that Lumia 950 xl will hold up until the Surface phone will "change everything".
Guess what? Surface phone never came. that's okay. Microsoft started being extra quiet about its future mobile plans. And finally, Microsoft had the balls to come out and call Windows 10 Mobile an OS aimed at enterprises. I am sorry but no. W10M was aimed at consumers and Microsoft never looked at enterprises ever since they started targeting the consumer masses a couple of years ago, I understand Microsoft would never see this rant but I got a couple of things to tell them. You guys, designed and shipped a little box of garbage (Lumia 950/XL) and called it your flagship. You sold it at a premium price and you made your loyal fans believe that it's for the better future. you never cared to address the ONE problem that your phones have which is the apps. you built a beautiful OS and decided to go with less than premium material. you went for fireworks like Continuum at the wrong time. If you had a solid fan base (which you don't btw) you would've benefitted WAY more. I don't know who your counsellor is but continuum is not a feature that drives people to switch to W10M but it's more like an add-on that would've been nice given that you already had everything else figured out which you don't btw.

I wish Microsoft never decided to give android and iOS users their services. Microsoft is strong I don't know why it didn't use this to force goggle to make native apps for w10M. I don't understand why Microsoft didn't build a premium phone under the surface brand which I am willing to bet a million dollars would've changed the game. people are already familiar with the Surface and they would've been intrigued by a Surface branded phone.

It's too late now. Pixel XL 2 is right around the corner followed by iPhone 8. A surface phone would've been perfect earlier this year. I am switching to Goggle Pixel 2. I am just tired of being treated like the psycho ExBf that's running after Microsoft hoping that it would change for me, for us, the loyal Windows Phone Army. I will not abandon Microsoft services though. I will do my very best to turn the Pixel XL 2 into a Microsoft phone with Android's open system.
On one last final note, I will not be purchasing Microsoft's next flagship phone ... or the one after. I will wait until Microsoft is screaming at me to come back and then I will consider. I hope the day that Microsoft finally decides to give us what we want comes soon. because if it doesn't, even my beloved windows 10 will be doomed

Should the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 be my next Laptop?

Folks,

AS some of you may know I'm a VR guy. Besides answering the questions around here, I'm also the Google Daydream View Champion at VRHeads, one of our sister sites. I also own a Gear VR. HOWEVER I have played around with both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive and would LOVE to have one of those headsets.

I was reading this blog on the Windows Central front page and it seemed to indicate that the 7000 was a good machine for VR! So I'm thinking about getting one, at least maybe when the Christmas bonus comes in, or maybe with my next tax refund.

So what do you all think about the 7000? Ain't she a beast? AND considering, it's NOT that expensive at starting price just under 1000. :) (VR requires a LOT of PC!!! lol)

And then I got the Logitech Craft keyboard. This thing is amazing. I've never used a mechanical keyboard, nor have I really thought about how much better my ergonomic situation could be if I made some adjustments to my input methods.

Windows 10 build 16353 discussion (Redstone 4, Fast)

New/Fixed on PC:
  • When the Action Center is black (the default option) the "clear all", "expand"/"collapse", and "see more" link text will now all use your accent color – making them pop more and improving discoverability.
  • We've updated the Action Center to now support a two finger touch gesture to dismiss all notifications. Place two fingers vertically within the Action Center near the edge opposite to the side of your screen. Then slide these fingers towards the side of the screen. You will notice all notification groups following your fingers and then dismissing as you slide your fingers off the side of the screen.
  • We fixed an issue in XAML resulting in text animations appearing slightly blurry in the last flight until the animation had stopped (for example, when loading the main page of Settings).
  • We fixed an issue resulting in the taskbar being unexpectedly thick if you booted up the PC while plugged in to an external monitor with a different DPI.
  • We fixed an issue that caused minimized per-monitor DPI aware windows to miss DPI changes and end up with a mix of DPI scaling upon restoring.
  • We fixed an issue from recent flights where when Slideshow was enabled resuming from sleep a second time might place the Lock screen in a state where it couldn't be dismissed without pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in an unexpected change in mouse sensitivity in the last flight for PCs using non-default display scaling.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in Asphalt 8 not accepting input in recent flights.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in progress wheels on certain websites in Microsoft Edge unexpectedly moving out of place during their rotation.
  • We fixed an issue where the Windows Hello strings would appear on top of the page when performing a pin reset from the login screen.

Broken on PC:
  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This build and version is the latest Redstone 4 build in testing for Desktop Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things Windows 10 build 16353, discuss it here.

Basic tip

If you're having any issues with your device, try a reset.

Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC > This provides you with two options: 1. Keep my files and 2. Remove everything

Keep my files

Does just as its name describes. If you choose the setting you can reinstall Windows 10 without having to back up any of the pictures, videos, music and documents that you have stored on it. You absolutely should back up these things just in case, but you shouldn't need to use that back up. Keep My Files requires a certain amount of free space on your device. As such, it may be unavailable to you if your device is stuffed with a lot of files. If you get an error message asking for more storage when you choose this option you'll need to back up your files and choose the remove everything option. You could also delete any files that you aren't using on your device and try the option again. This option will take longer than the other options.

Remove Everything

Deletes every file, every setting from your device and gives you a blank copy of Windows 10 to work with. You'll need to add any files you have backed up to your device again.

Microsoft owes us that have stuck with them since Windows Phone 7 and even beyond!!!

Like most of you on this site I have become frustrated with MS. I have been a part of their ecosystem since Windows Mobile 5.0 on the HTC Dash. Just when I was about to jump to Android, MS rolled out WP7. I stuck with them. Then after the WP7 upgrades (7.5 & 7.8) all through to 8 & 8.1, which meant more new hardware. I stuck with them. Then there was another shift to WM10. I stuck with them. MS was in a good place. The Surface brand, Windows 10, Xbox and Hololens had made MS an exciting and cool company once again! During this time I would convince anyone who would listen to get a Windows product (especially phone), but now that is not the case. And it has been that way for at least almost two years.

I am in it pretty deep! Everything is Windows - SP4 that is less than a year old, but freezes randomly, DV8P still chugging along, Lenovo Idea PC Stick (RIP), Band 2 - nuff said, Lumia 925 w/ 8.1, Lumia 640 w/ WM10 IP, and Idol 4S IP. Lately, I have been looking at my options meaning which Android hardware am I going with. I am still fighting Apple although everyone in my family has an iPhone.

It seems, at times, the writers on this site struggle with content compared to a couple of years ago. So many similar articles about best PCs or the surface phone keeps popping up. I cannot recall being super excited about an article in a while. Not 100% writers fault, MS just has not been exciting lately.

Jumping off my soap box now and getting back to the subject at hand. There are many of us who have been in this deep for as long/longer than I have. If there is a Surface Mobile device somewhere on the horizon, then MS should do what Samsung did for the Note 7 owners - hand out heavy discounts to those who stuck with them since WP7 and prior! Is that too much to ask?

Need Photo App for Surface Pro 4 That Locks in Photo Placement

I used to have a Surface Pro 3 that included two photo apps: Photos and Photo Gallery. I now have a Surface Pro 4, which has only Photos.

One thing I liked about Photo Gallery was that I could place my photos in a particular order and modify that order if I wanted. I use my tablet for trips—I take photographs with my Nikon digital; inport them into my tablet; and then edit them, including modifying the tags so that I can control their order. I may have a picture taken at the end of the trip that I want to be moved to the beginning of the presentation.

But somehow I cannot determine the placement of photos with the Photos app in the Surface Pro 4. I have downloaded Polarr and Photo Shop into my Surface Pro and still can't place my photos in a particular order.

Any advice?
Thanks.

How to watch DVDs on Windows 10

It's not as easy to watch a DVD on Windows 10 as it probably should be, but these apps will get the job done.
Back in the day, there was Windows Media Center, which, while not available on all versions of Windows, did allow you to freely watch DVDs on your PC. Microsoft killed off Windows Media Center in Windows 10 and left some folks who use a home theater PC (HTPC) with a dilemma.
If you upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8 with Media Center, there was at least a free option to play DVDs. That's not the case if you bought a new Windows 10 machine.
So, if you're wondering about the best way to play DVDs on Windows 10, read on. (Note: You obviously need a DVD drive on your PC to watch DVDs on Windows.)

Hands-on with Star Wars Battlefront II: Starfighter Assault for Xbox One, PC

Star Wars Battlefront was heavily criticized for its lack of space battles, and that's something the sequel aims to fix.
Star Wars Battlefront II should launch on November 17, 2017, and given the fact that it shares a launch window with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you can pretty much guarantee it's going to be a hit. Many people thought the same was true for the first game in the rebooted franchise, though, and a combination of simplicity and lack of content saw its player base dwindle fast.
Battlefront II looks as though it's gunning to rectify that, adding a full-blown story campaign, more ways to play, and an all-new Starfighter Assault mode, developed by a separate studio – Criterion, known for the Need for Speed racing games. You'd hope a studio that specializes in vehicular games might be able to make Star Wars Battlefront II's space combat a lot more rewarding, and if my early impressions pan out, it looks like they might have nailed it.

Forza Motorsport 7 truly spotlights the power of Xbox One X

Forza Motorsport 7 fully embraces the Xbox One X, making for Microsoft's most visually impressive game to date.

When the Xbox One X was officially unveiled a few months ago, Forza Motorsport 7 was adopted as the poster child of the console's capabilities. While other major Microsoft Studios titles were still promising enhancements for their launches in 2018, Microsoft's flagship racing franchise kicked off its E3 showcase with a slick trailer comprised of in-game 4K footage.
With the console's unveiling out of the way, the focus now lies of the games coming to the Xbox One X in the months ahead. The Forza series has played a huge part in marketing new Xbox One consoles in the past – most notably the Xbox One's initial launch back in 2013, where Forza Motorsport 5 took center stage. Four years later, the beautifully-crafted presentation of Forza still makes for a perfect way of showing the capabilities of the new hardware.

Use OneDrive for backup?

The question is if this is viable solution.

I have Office Family subscription, $113/year in Sweden. It gives 5x office packages including 5 x 1TB OneDrive storage.
But it's just me and a son in law that use it.
I have connected almost all to OneDrive folders, including desktops and alike. About 450 GB
On my 100/10 mbps connection it takes days to upload that kind of data on 10-12 mbsp speed.

My thought was to set up a second Microsoft account and use one of the 5 included 1 TB as backup on OneDrive.
To be used only when I want to backup and should not otherwise be automatically synced.

Can I have 2 accounts on the Win 10 PC that have access to "everything" aka the same data?
Will it be sure the account not logged into is not synced to OneDrive?

So, if some malware or ransomware attack me the second OneDrive will be safe?

Apologize if it's already asked. I did a light search and didn't find anything.

Computer set up is an Intel core i5 second generation PC latest Win 10 Prof, an Surface 3 w Win 10 Home, an Galaxy A5 and occasional old iPad 3.
