W10P Dock & LG V20

I use a Windows Phone Dock at work to handle personal stuff using my retired Idol 4S continuum function. Today I plugged in my V20 to charge and was shocked when it recognized the keyboard, mouse and monitor!! Wow! The keyboard and mouse functioned perfectly and phone screen was duplicated on monitor. Not quit continuum, but the W10M dock was functioning with my V20. Anyone try this yet? Is there an app to scale display for larger monitors?

Cannot add a second MS account?!

Is anyone else having this issue, or has encountered it before?

Lumia 640 dual-SIM. I installed the latest insider Release Preview version 15254.1 and then Reset the phone to factory settings.

Now I can NOT add secondary MS accounts at all. They only get added as "Accounts used by other apps" and not as "Email, calendar, and contacts", which means I cannot manage them and cannot change their name or sync settings, e.g. "As items arrive", "Download email from: any time", etc.

wp_ss_20171101_0003.png

What is going on?! I'm unable to sync my older emails because I cannot change the sync range. Infuriating.

Currently my local drive holds a lot of info that syncs with OneDrive. I want to to save hard drive space. How can I use my Windows Explorer to drop files into OneDrive, have them upload and just create a pointer?

If copy and paste from my hard drive OneDrive folder, will the pointer be copied or the actual files. i.e. drop some files on to USB key.

Thanks,

Touchscreen doesn't work after W10 Fall Update

I've tried to install all possible Tabpro S driver packs I could find, no luck. Did a complete reset, same result: no luck.

Any of you have had this and maybe can give me a hint?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Solution needed to getting windows phone to connect to VPN router

Okay, first let me say any ideas are appreciated, but from my research so far the solution I need might be a real challenge for anyone, even the very tech savvy !

Let me first tell you what I am trying to do and the equipment I am trying to do it with.

All I want to do is to have just one ip network security camera on my home LAN that we can view remotely with our windows phones when we are away from our home WIFI and need to use our data plan.** Sounds simple right ?, but further down you'll see what obstacles I am running into !

Here is*our equipment:

Windows Phones:* Nokia Lumia 1520 and Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE (both running Windows mobile 8.1)

VPN* Router:* ASUS RT-ACRH13* http://ift.tt/2zlg6yx

IP Camera:* HIKVISION DS-2CD2342WD-I** DS-2CD2342WD-I-Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd.

The easy and simple solution would be if there was a windows phone client for OpenVPN but as far as I know there is not any yet.

Now (unless I'm mistaken) I'm finding out the windows phones vpn option "L2TP over IPsec" requires the vpn router to have a "L2TP over IPsec" server and it seems consumer class vpn routers only have OpenVPN servers which windows phones can't connect to and the business class vpn routers that do have a "L2TP over IPsec" server are way too expensive (over $200 and up) for the average home user on a budget and especially for me being retired on social security.

I have been asking for help on an ip camera forum but so far the only safe solutions offered were switching to android phones (not an option as our windows phones are fairly new) or getting a very expensive business class router, also not an option being on a budget on social security.

The other options that would work other than what I just mentioned were said to be very unsafe security-wise, and that is either port forwarding or using Hikvision P2P camera viewing service.

I'm somewhat tech savvy in general, but ip cameras and VPN is a new area for me and I'm quickly finding out the tech industry does not make it easy when it comes to compatibility options with windows phones.

It would be very much appreciated if any network savvy techs could look at my router specs at the link above and offer any other solution for having a working VPN connection to our Windows phones so we can remotely view our security camera thru data when we are away from our home WIFI.

Thanks !

Gary

Where are Groove Pass subscribers going?

I just finished cancelling all my Groove Passes (i had three, one for me, my wife and my daughter). I just bought a Spotify family membership (that's one nice thing about the move). I will say that Spotify app isn't nearly as responsive or powerful as the Groove app. It would be nice if Microsoft would just give Spotify the Groove app and let Spotify place it in front of their music database/collection. I don't care who is hosting the music on the back-end. I just want the front-end/end-user experience i have grown to love with Groove (which for a while stunk as XBOX Music, but got much better). Also, i want to be able to build a playlist of songs i own and songs i save in Spotify. Groove would be better for that.

POLL: How long is the battery life of your Surface Pro 2017?

Considering that battery life is one of their selling point this time, it would be interesting to see how the actual battery life of the SP2017 is like. Of course, none of us will actually get the best-case-scenario 13.5 hours with our average usage pattern, and thats fine. Thats just a fact with an advertising. What I would actually like to see is how it actually fares in real life, with the usage pattern of the average Surface Pro owners.

Without further ado, here's the link to the poll http://ift.tt/2zTwceF

(I had to use an external poll service because I post this on several forums and Reddit to get as many examples as possible. It is also great to let forum lurkers, the people who dont sign in, to join in)

If you have any tips and tricks about the battery life, be sure to share it down below :)

________________________________________

If you're not sure about your battery life, Windows has logged your battery life since you first setup the device. Here's how you can see your average battery life:

1. Open a command prompt. You can press Win+R, and type cmd in, and enter.

2. In the command prompt, copy and paste the command below, and press Enter.

powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html

3. Double click/tap on the battery_report.html file on your desktop to open and see your battery usage report in your default web browser (ex: Microsoft Edge).

4. Your average battery life (from full to empty) is on the very bottom of the generated report file.

Microsoft, please show actual DATE on Alarms & Clock

Hi, this is a feature request for Microsoft, but it'd be nice to hear if other readers feel the same:

In Alarms & Clock, both the App page "World Clock" and the Live Tile show NO DATES!

For instance, I have New York as a Live Tile. There's PLENTY of space for a date.

And for the World Clock, each location is shows as "x hours ahead" or "behind." While this ahead/behind info is helpful, I'd REALLY like to know the DATE! When I'm traveling, I sometimes don't even know my current location's date, let alone time. And I sure as hell don't want to be calculating what date New York or London is by adding or subtracting from my time.

(Note, I'm also submitting this to Microsoft's feedback app.)

I bought an invoke speaker and used it over the weekend and began to wonder if it was worth the cost. The speaker sounded was great, but I noticed a couple of other things that I wasn't happy with. First, was that it doesn't have connect+ capability to allow two of them to work together. Second, I was disappointed that it didn't have an alternate name so that I didn't have to be concerned with saying "Hey Cortana" around my Xbox or windows phone. Third, I was disappointed that it would only work for 1 person, my wife wasn't able to check and add to her calendar (This for me is a deal breaker). Last, I would like to be able to connect Cortana to my corporate (Exchange) mail server (non-O365).

I guess my question for is: Do you know if Microsoft is working on enabling Cortana to discern between to different voices so that more that one person can use a device like this? Also, do you think they are working to allow Cortana to connect to standalone exchange servers.

Thanks

FLAC on Groove

Any one know how Groove functions with FLAC format.

I just ripped a CD to .flac and put a copy in my local music file folder and it sounds so much better on my PC with crap speakers than the same album using my Groove Music Pass.

I used Groove to play both copies.

I am intending to use the .flac format for all my CD's and future music on PC/Mobile/Xbox

However when I put the same CD in OneDrive it will not show up on my mobile or the Xbox, I tried deleting some of my old MP3 files in there and their deletion showed up immediately.

If I have to I will forgo using OneDrive and go back to local music (Just means copying them) but it would be easier for me to use OneDrive.

Bungie promises to improve Destiny 2's endgame and rewards

It looks like Bungie finally heard consumers. In a recent post on their website, the studio revealed that Destiny 2's endgame, loot and activity rewards are all being improved.
Gamers who have spent hundreds of hours in Destiny 2 know that the only way to get great items is to do the weekly quests. They reset every Tuesday and can be completed in a few hours. There really isn't a need to spend time in the Crucible or doing normal Strikes outside of that because the rewards aren't worth the time. Players aren't guaranteed Exotic engrams and most of the time get rare gear. The problem with players getting the same Exotic item again and again is also out of control.
