Why is Windows Central thoughtlessly wasting my time?

Why did it log me in, specifically invite me to comment on a message I had just read, and after working on my comment for 10 minutes tell me "You don't have enough reputation to post comments on older content " Thank you SO much, guys.

Yes, the question is rhetorical and I'm not sure you have enough reputation for me to visit the WC again to see if there is any response.

Surface Go 8/128: Amber LED Glowing Behind Front Camera.

Recently, I noticed a faint amber color emanating from behind the front facing camera on my Go.

I was not utilizing the camera in any manner, so, I thought it was odd to see this happening. I switched off all permissions to the camera, but, it periodically appeared again.

I then proceeded to do a full system recovery using a USB drive.

Soon after getting everything updated and restored, the glow returned.

Is the glowing LED normal behavior? What exactly is the purpose of this LED? All permissions to access the camera are still disabled.

Microsoft just bought inXile Entertainment, but who are they?

Microsoft is gearing up to tackle the next console generation with a bang, picking up studios left, right, and center in attempts to offset some of its biggest criticisms. Say hi to inXile Entertainment.
Microsoft is setting its bets for the next console generation, as Redmond not only attempts to make up for lost ground against PlayStation, but sets up defences against potential moves from Google, Amazon, and other tech giants.
Microsoft is well placed on a technical level for the next console generation. The combined forces of the Xbox and Surface industrial engineering teams is a winning combo, and Microsoft's massive investment in regional data centers grants them a sizable advantage in live services, and their planned game streaming service, set to debut in 2019. One area Microsoft has arguably neglected in recent years is in its internal game stable. Both critics and customers have been fairly adamant that Microsoft can improve in this area, and Microsoft has responded in a big way.
Microsoft picked up several new studios this year, including Forza Horizon-aficionado Playground Games, RPG heavyweight Obsidian Entertainment, and State of Decay developer Undead Labs. When Microsoft announced the acquisition of inXile Entertainment, however, it came as a bit of a surprise.

inXile Entertainment, founded by the legendary Brian Fargo of Interplay fame, is known in recent times for classic-style crowd-funded RPGs Wasteland 2 and The Bard's Tale IV. Both games were well-received overall, but they launched missing some of the polish that you might have expected from a larger studio. I think it's fair to say the games also flew under the radar a bit, lacking the marketing reach Microsoft Studios games typically enjoy. As part of Microsoft, inXile should be able to push their ambitions to the next level, handing off business administration and marketing efforts to Microsoft corporate, and focusing entirely on their art.
Here's a brief history of inXile, and what to expect from this hugely promising studio.

Reset Issues

So today I tried a hard reset, since I'd never done one on my L950 before, well since I got it. Trying to see if battery life and general stability improves as a result.

Anyway, I'm having a couple of problems with the reset, namely two.

The first is all apps I've bought are not loading. I'm getting an error, and they do not show up in my store apps list, actually everything that I've gotten prior to around 2015 has been purged somehow, while I can find orders for bought apps, which still shows that I've paid for them.

Now, this is rather annoying, bought apps that are still available show up in the store as available for purchase again. I can't find a solution at all.

Second issue is that facebook doesn't appear to sync contacts anymore. Only annoyance about this is that I can't get photos for most of my contacts now, making the people app and tile look rather lonely.

Anyone have any advice or solutions?
Thanks

XSplit VCam removes the need for a green screen on your streams

Popular broadcast software XSplit has launched a brand new app for content creators everywhere. And it's pretty good.
If you're into streaming, whether as a viewer or as a creator, you'll no doubt be familiar with a green screen. Streamers will sit in front of one and by then applying a chroma key in software to the color of the screen, you can make the background disappear and all that's left is you.
The trouble with a green screen, though, even ones as convenient as the Elgato Green Screen, is that they're often expensive and take up a fair bit of space. There have been alternatives using software before, but rarely have they ever been worth any serious time.
XSplit is hoping to change all that with VCam. It's a virtual green screen and background replacement application, initially available to XSplit Premium subscribers. But the best part is that you don't need XSplit to make use of it. That and it's actually fairly good.

Fallout 76 criticized for Power Armor Edition contents

Fallout 76 is caught up in yet another controversy, this time centered around a nylon bag.
Fallout 76 has seen no shortage of criticism since its November 14 debut, shaping up among 2018's most controversial launches yet. While an open-world spin on the franchise was promising, lackluster performance, content, and bugs have faced a widespread backlash. Bethesda is now in the spotlight again, this time for its $200 Power Armor Edition and included nylon bag.

Black Screen After Factory Reset

I spent 2 weeks waiting for my laptop to restore factory settings, after a bugged software update, and I am now faced with a black screen.
There is no mouse icon and none of the keyboard shortcuts seem to have an affect.

I'm scared to pull the old "off and on again" because I was told that it may damage the device.

Any advice would be appreciated, I am at my wits' end.

Some ideas for Microsoft (Mobile)

Hi guys!

I've been thinking on some ideas for Microsoft Mobile (oy) on new devices:

End with the Nokia number names. I think that putting all your phones a name with numbers is just dumb, it just doesn't works, they are too hard to remember for people and difficult to advertise. "THE NOKIA LUMIA 930 WITH WINDOWS PHONE 8.1"
I think nearly every OEM on Windows has to understand that names matter! One of the reasons why Samsung and Apple are respected brands is because people KNOW what the iphone means and what the S(x) means, the flagships must have recognized names.

Scrap the Nokia brand on phones and use just Lumia, maybe add a Microsoft logo a la Apple. I think that if WP keeps growing under the nokia brand, when it disappears (about 18 months)Chris Weber on the future of device branding at Microsoft | Windows Phone Central people will just not realize that all the new phones were made by Microsoft and not Nokia. Although Nokia is very popular in Argentina (where I live) for example, Microsoft could use that chance to push the Nokia devices department merger into Microsoft as a marketing push and get the Lumia name into consumers minds. Everyone has to know that Nokia phones were bought by Microsoft in developing countries.

That said I have some suggestions for successor names and characteristics:

 Nokia Lumia 520: LOW END Successor should be named after its codename like Lumia Rock or Lumia people, a smartphone for the masses. I think the main problem of the 520 is it has no flash and just 512mb if RAM, the Rock should have flash and at least 1GB of RAM, and touch buttons. This should be a very important smartphone for Microsoft, and make the user base in developing markets. It should be pushed as the best budget smartphone.

 Nokia Lumia 630: LOW END An improvement from the Lumia Rock, they should add LTE support and some screen improvements. Touch buttons. (Just like the 638 just announced in China) Microsoft announces new 4G enabled Lumia 636, Lumia 638 in China | Windows Phone Central . Change name to something without numbers maybe Lumia Rock + or Lumia people pro (or lumia pro people hahaha!)

 Nokia Lumia 720: MID RANGE Should add Nokia good camera capabilities, have at least LTE, 1GB of RAM, a Dual core processor, good screen. Change name to Lumia something Name could have something to do with windows phone personal/social futures.

 Nokia Lumia 820: MID RANGE A better version of the previous Lumia.

 Nokia Lumia 930: FLAGSHIP The successor should be a great phone, just like the Lumia 930, but with a more attractive design (that looks more like the Lumia 935), slimmer, it should sport a full aluminum body and SD card capabilities. Should also be able to run Glance Screen and 3D touch. Name changed to just Lumia Icon 2 or Lumia N (for Nokia). This should be the one that says: look here it is, a smartphone with no compromises, here is the best of Nokia, Microsoft and WP altogether

 Nokia Lumia 1020: FLAGSHIP change name to Lumia Shot or Lumia Zoom. This phone should expose the best camera that can fit into an attractive smartphone and add modern specs. Should also have 3D touch capabilities. (Maybe the rummored McLaren is this phone)

 Nokia Lumia 1320: LOW END PHABLET Should be like a big Lumia Rock, with better screen. Change name.

 Nokia Lumia 1520: HIGH END PHABLET (FLAGSHIP) Add pen input support (maybe a surface pro3-like pen) and 3D touch. Keep design but make an aluminum variant too. Should be named after its big screen and input support, could be Lumia Note or Lumia Image. It should be focused on artists, creative people, professionals, etc.

All the previous should keep its actual screen sizes, colors variants. Flagships should ship with 16GB or more, add SD support. Design should be a little less square and look more modern.

MICROSOFT STOP CARRIER EXCLUSIVES, market share is made with availability not exclusivity, and Microsoft has literally billions in the bank, STOP DEPENDING ON CARRIERS (LIKE NOKIA DID) FOR ADVERTISING AND DO IT BY YOURSELF.

Focus less in the USA and more in the rest of the world! (we like WP much more than Americans!).

Stop naming phones differently under specific carriers. I really think that nokia made a big mistake by not keeping Icon as the Lumia 930's name, how can you expect people to know that two phones with different names are exactly the same!

Keep surface as the main brand for tablets/convertibles.

Scrap the Lumia 2520 and replace it by some kind of surface "play" tablet, focused on entertainment and not productivity. A direct ipad competitor/killer. That device would need long battery file, lumia like color variations a decent pricepoint, maybe the surface 3 could be that device.

Well, those are a few of my Ideas, they are not finaal, and names are just ideas (I'm no marketing expert) tell me what you, WPcentral-ers think?

Rival Megagun is fun, but not without flaws

Rival Megagun is a wonderful concept, but it fails to capitalize on itself due to some gameplay issues.
Arcade gauntlet-style shooters like are a fairly rare sight in this day and age, and as someone who loved to play games like Galaga as a kid, I was excited to see that Rival Megagun, a new game out tomorrow on Xbox One, was offering an experience very similar to this. After playing, though, it was clear that the game's issues were holding it back from greatness. While it is a fair amount of fun overall, the breakneck pace of the game and the overwhelming amount of things on screen hurt the experience.

How to Remove Calendars for EAS?

I noticed on my Calendar app on my phone that calendars I've already deleted from Outlook Web Calendar are still there. The phone is syncing to the calendars via EAS. The Outlook app syncs properly, but the problem with that is it doesn't sync to the calendar, it wants you to use itself as the calendar app, which I don't want to because it won't guve me the full screen event notification that the Samsung Calendar does.
So how am I supposed to delete them?

Xbox One X 'performing phenomenally' says NPD

Xbox One X is doing rather well.
Many years ago, Microsoft stopped reporting Xbox One sales figures and started measuring success based on Xbox Live members. In 2017, the company released the Xbox One X, the most powerful console ever made, but didn't provide us with figures as to how well the machine was doing at retailers. While there are numerous organizations around the world that report sales figures, The NPD Group tacks it in the United States.

Bungie details Destiny 2: Forsaken updates until August

Destiny 2 has a lot of content planned.
Destiny 2: Forsaken launched at a critical time for Bungie and Activision. The game was losing players due to the excessive grind and lack of compelling end-game activities. The Forsaken expansion fixed that to some degree, but despite Bungie's best efforts, Activision said that it was a disappointment during its quarterly earnings call. Luckily, there are plenty of activities coming to Destiny 2 which should brings players back and keep them engaged.

Lumia 650 did not recieve Canada's Alert Ready system test. How come?

Alert Ready is Canada's emergency alerting system. Alert Ready delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio and LTE-connected and compatible wireless devices.
This afternoon was a test to ensure Canadians receive alerts immediately and know when to take action to stay safe.

I have a Lumia 650, live in a earth quake/tsunami zone. I never received the Alert Ready test. My phones carrier is compatible with the alert system.
Am I truly an ***** for clinging onto the Windows Mobile platform or is there some sort of setting on my phone that I have missed?? I did not have data turned on if that matters any, the alert comes as a siren and sms message.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Now you should definitely play it.
Star Wars Battlefront II has had a troubled history. The title landed in hot water because it featured egregious microtransactions at launch. Just to go the Xbox Store page and download the title if you're a member.

Sea of Thieves Xbox Achievements are now easier to earn

They should get easier.
Sea of Thieves has a lot of Xbox Achievements, and many of them are incredibly difficult to earn. Recently, one gamer spent over two thousand hours in order to get a hundred percent completion. This seems quite excessive because no game should require that much time. There probably isn't even two thousands hours worth of content in Sea of Thieves to begin with. Even The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim requires less time.
