Sudden problem using OneNote

Using a Lumia 521 with 8.1 Update. Keep a to do/grocery list using OneNote for a long time now which is synced with my Win 10 machine. Recently, when I open the Quick Note on the phone, the phone slows down to a crawl & the on screen key board takes a good 30 seconds before it even pops up. When closing the app, sometimes it takes around 20 seconds just for the phone to 'unfreeze'. Then again, sometimes the app works just fine. Any suggestions?

Outlook mail wont send messages on icon w/ win10

Odd problem but since I upgraded my icon to win10, Verizon's release, I often cannot send email's. It happens only when I am replyng to a message. I can compose the message. Tap send and nothing happens. Also backspace does nothing when this happens. New messages work fine however only replies present the issue. It happens on both my email accounts as well

Any ideas?

950Xl- Glance screen Too dim to be seen and reddish

HEY FOLKS,
I am facing an issue , my 950xl's glance screen is too dim to be seen in a dark room and is completely unseen in light. Its colour has changed to little reddish from white... Its been almost a month and i didnt see any help in any forums... Replacement is not possible because i dont live in the country where i brought the product. I am sure im not the only one with this problem coz i have seen many people with similiar problem on the forums...

My battery draining fast, can't change screen brightness after windows 10 upgrade

I like Windows 10.
I upgraded yesterday before the free upgrade expiration using ISO file from MS site.
my problem:
battery life is reduced to half,
cannot adjust screen brightness,
my bluetooth driver is gone.
I checked into HP's support site I was told there is no driver currently for my system(hp pavilion 15 e084ca made somewhere between 2011 to 2013 don't k=now for sure).
Anybody has an idea where I can get a compatible driver to get my bluetooth and screen brightness back?
Win 10 upgrade oviously removed them.

2 messenger icons in my all apps list. 1 works well but another not work and do not uninstall

I updated my lumia430 to windows10, after updates there are showed two messenger icons (same name but different image) in the apps list. One of them works very well and another doesn't. Moreover it can not uninstall, delete or remove. It shows pin to startup and uninstall option by tap on it but do not uninstall. It also do not shows in app corner in settings. Upgraded to win 10 and doesn't run right, edge opens then closes, cortana doesn't work, problems with one drive, and the list goes on. If I reset win 10 (1st option under recovery) can I still roll back to win 7 if it doesn't fix things? Win10 works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. Also was a pain to install on the laptop, kept getting stuck in update loop at 0%, finally worked with upgrade assistant. It is up to date with updates and IE11 and google work fine.

Bluetooth problem

Hi All,

New to the site and have been trying to find the answer to this problem for a couple of weeks.

Only just bought the unit but from the beginning I've been having issues with the bluetooth connectivity?
I've got a Samsung S Action mouse connected but as soon as the device goes into sleep mode and is restarted, the bluetooth options are all greyed out in both the notification panel and also in device manager?

The only way to re-enable bluetooth is to shut down the device and re-start it.

Google shows that this is a known problem in Windows 10 but all apparent fixes are getting me no where :cry:

Anyone had this problem or any ideas how to cure it?

Realling enjoying the device apart from this.

Windows 10 Messenger, change notification sound

Hello!

Is even possible to change Facebook Messenger notification sound ?
In settings "Notifications&Actions", there is no option for change that sound, like in Windows 10 Mobile.
But I found that sound file in "WindowsApps" folder, but I'm not able to modify any files in that folder.
It says "Access denied"

Duplicate entries in outlook

I tried to ask this question in another section but did not get much feed back. Perhaps this is a better section.

Some months ago I upgraded my Win 8.1 Surface Pro 3 to Win 10 and decided to start using Microsoft One Drive including my Lumia 950. I had always used POP 3 accounts in Outlook and followed the guidance from this website to establish an Outlook exchange Active x account. This successfully established the email (2) account and things seem to have transferred successfully. While I do not use the email(2) account and it is not my defaut account, it remains in the outlook home screen, which is not just distracting, it appears to somehow get selected as the email account and gets used accidentally. In addition, the contacts and calendar are duplicates. Calendar not so bad, as I can select which one to show and use, but it remains, but the contacts are actively duplicate which is always causing an issue.

How can I eliminate this duplication and suppress the 2nd. email account?

To clarify, I have office installed and am using Outlook, not the mail app. I do not believe the approach suggested will work.

Possible Answer to Band/Band 2 Random Shut Downs

While waiting for yet another replacement of my Band 2, I stumbled across a video that may hold the answer to the random shut downs. A firefighter noticed that when moving his Band 2 close to his portable radio it would shut down even with full battery. This caused me to realize that my shut downs are also limited to when I'm on duty, wearing my radio.



So it appears that maybe the digital radio frequency from the portable radio is triggering some sort of event on the Band/Band 2. For those who are experiencing the issue who don't use radios, is there a common location/scenario where your band powers off? Maybe there are similar digital interferences that are causing the issues for others.

If we all try to identify potential causes, and find a common source, maybe Microsoft can issue a software patch or at least provide some form of shielding for future wearables.

4G not showing in settings.

I upgraded to fast ring for windows 10 on lumia 1020 and not i cannot have ability to switch to 4G. As my highest band to select is 3G but as per my phone specs its 4G enabled. I have tried slow ring as well but same result. Is anyone there who can help me out or i should go for Redstone upgrade and if yes then how to upgrade. Help will be appreciated.

I was using 4G upto Windows 8.1 denim and ofcourse the carrier provides 4G but after upgrading its gone. I have tried fast ring and slow ring but its same. I upgraded in last year August at that time it showed in a different manner like '2G, 2G&3G, 3G, 3G&4G and 4G. Now it only shows 4G. Is there anyone who is using Redstone upgarde with 4G in it or any work around. Please suggest. Thank you.

'This drive has apps from another device' after Hard Reset. Any way to get them back?

So my Lumia 950 XL updated itself to build 14393.5 overnight last night and when I woke up the phone was off (or had froze, was hard to tell). I battery pulled after leaving it for a few minutes and upon turning back on migrated my data. All was good, or so I thought.

I very quickly found out that some apps simply weren't opening (they would get to the splash screen at best). This included Microsoft Edge and Settings. Annoyingly I wanted to reset my phone Friday before this new build came out, but I didn't even know my phone had downloaded it and usually I'm pretty good with these sorts of things, anyway I digress.

I reset the phone via the button combination but before doing so removed my microSD card in fear it too would be reset, then restored from a backup and thought everything would be good. But now it won't let me store apps on the card until I delete the old apps. I kind of want these apps for the data and game saves etc. Any way for the phone to realise the apps are in fact from the same device?

Windows 10 Mobile continues to be a huge frustration and this is sadly the last straw for me.

Microsoft maps, using offline downlpaded maps

hope anyone can offer assistance, i have downloaded the UK maps which I use frequently use, but when my 4g phone signal is poor I am being asked whether I want to use the downloaded ones which are already on the phone (a microsoft 950), and as this is something which the HERE maps asked me whether I wanted to search the downloaded ones, but when I try to use them there is nothing to use.

How to uninstall cumulative update in windows 10?

The last update for windows 10 version 1511 for x64-based systems (KB3173428) is totally disappointing. No new changes but my PC going slow as like turtle. How do I retrieve lost data after upgrading to windows 10?

So basically, I upgraded to windows 10, and I found that a lot of my documents and photos were gone! But I luckily found them under this pc > local disk (c) > users > public so I decided to move those files to "this pc". How to force your Xbox One to download the Summer Update

The Xbox One Summer Update is finally here, and it's rolling out in waves.

This update will bring Cortana, a revamped Games & Apps section, background music playback, Universal Windows Platform applications to your console, and much more. If your Xbox One is in standby mode, it should update automatically over the next couple of days. However, you can force your console to download the Xbox One Summer Update after 10 AM PDT / 5 PM GMT by using the following method.

Here are all the Universal apps launching with the Xbox One Summer Update

With the arrival of the Xbox One's Summer Update, a range of new features has been introduced to further merge the console into the Windows ecosystem. Among the additions is a new universal storefront, which unifies the existing Xbox Store with its Windows counterpart.
As a part of the update, support has been added for Universal Windows applications on the Xbox One. At this point in time, the rollout has been slow but steady, with only a few apps currently on the console. We've compiled a list of all the Universal Windows apps available on the Xbox One today.
With the new Xbox Store, it's not currently possible to link to apps for the console. As a workaround, applications installed on your Windows 10 devices will appear in the 'Ready to Install' section on your Xbox One console. Alternatively, applications can be searched for on the console via the Xbox Store.

My Windows 10 Mobile device... Just got blocked for security things.
One screen told me to plug a charger for at least 2 hours, then reset.
Now it passed 24 hours (plugged in) and it still don't work.

Today I was installing Visual studio 2015. And the setup shows I should restart Pc to complete Installation. My Pc is dual booted 1st. Windwos 7 and 2nd. Kali Linux 2.
And my Pc still restarting. i have try starup repair, system point restore but nothing worked. Also I have W7 in a dvd to format or to repair my pc, but me PC won't boot that CD, it shows press any key to continue, and thats all the screen is black and nothing happen.

Microsoft is officially launching the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 on August 2, 2016. The new version of the operating system will be available simultaneously for laptops, tablets, phones, desktop PCs, and even the Xbox One as a free update. In addition, Microsoft is planning to bring the Anniversary Update to HoloLens and other devices running Windows 10 soon after the PC/phone/Xbox launch.

My start screen is being overrun by UWP

It's possible that everyone disagrees with me, but...

I just got an update for Nextgen Reader, and in the update it renamed itself Nextgen Reader UWP. Near it on my start screen is Wikipedia UWP. I really hope this isn't a trend, i.e. we don't need every Live Tile to say UWP after the app name, do we?

Devs: please don't follow this trend, it has a chance to get pretty silly. Just my opinion ;)

(btw, this is for Windows 10, not Windows 10 Mobile; I didn't see a Windows 10 app section but I figured it was ok since we are talking about Universal. Mods please move this thread if necessary, thanks)

Current Skype bug - cannot link Skype account with MS account (read for details)

So, it seems that Skype currently has a bug that prohibits you from linking your Skype and Microsoft accounts together. Microsoft have confirmed this. I spoke to their support team in length and they even remotely accessed my PC to try and fix it but to no avail.

The thing is that they have refused to actually acknowledge the issue publicly. The issue is that you can unlink the accounts but, when you link again and then sign in to Skype using your Microsoft account, Skype assigns you a technical ID (e.g. live:<skypename><number>) and every time you unlink and link again you get the same name but the number increases.

I don't suppose anyone knows any workarounds for this to get the accounts linked? Skype support said that they only way they can work on the issue is for me to send them a screenshot (I guess just a live chat session and LogMeIn sessions were not enough for them?!?) and that is seriously disappointing.

Surely this cannot be that hard an issue to fix? So, right now, this is a warning for everyone thinking of unlinking acco.

If you want to unlink both accounts to link again, don't. You currently will get some random Skype name instead if you do link again and that account is useless and then you have to contact Skype help to delete that account and so on, so it becomes a circle which becomes tiresome.

Here is hoping Microsoft fix this soon. I just wanted to let everyone here know.

Lumia 640 car charger

I tried to plug my new Lumia 640 in to charge in my car and got a message about it charging too slowly and it wouldn't charge properly. I've used this same charger with a Lumia 710 and 520 without issues (well, no messages).

Is there a special voltage/amp rating needed for this phone? The charger I had is a generic 12v usb charger from supermarket.

Does anyone know where in the UK to get one or if not the spec of what's needed so I can track one down?

A lot of apps are missing from "My Library" with 10.0.14393.5,, is it by design or a bug ?

Hello,

After using 10586 builds I upgraded my 640 to 10.0.14393.5. After the upgrade I did a full hard reset, but not I can't see a lot of my apps for re-install under "My Library". When I search for a missing app it doesn't say "You own it", but allows me to purchase it (either "free" or for a fee). Some of the unlisted apps are not unreachable at all, as I can't search for them.

I have a spare 635 with 10586 build and I can see them just fine, and it knows I already paid for them.

Is it a known bug, by design or just a glitch with my installation ?

How cam they say it's ready

I have had in going issues that I find in feedback hub from others as well.that have not been fixed yet. How can they roll this out Aug. 2nd. These are big issues. Bluetooth connection with Dodge Uconnect is really messed up. Podcasts randomly stop. Then when restarted they resume from their original position they were opened at. Text read back is a joke. It says there is a text, then it switches to Cortana that says I have a text. Then it finally asks if I want to read it. Napping voice instructions are worthless too. You have missed the turn ny the time it gets them spit out and it says call ended after every instruction. Also podcasts whether played over Bluetooth or headset stop when the screen timesout. All of this stuff was perfect with 8.1 in my old HTC 8x but my flagship 950 has them with the latest builds.

Newly added mail account not syncing

Hi'
I'm running Windows 10 (ver. 10.0.10586.494) on my Lumia 830 and everything were working perfect until last update (mentioned above). Then a mail account stopped working (no sync).
So I did a total reset of the phone and created the mail account again, but no luck.

The funny part is the mail account (with same setup) is working perfect on my desktop and iPad.

Any solutions will be appreciated.

How do I get rid of the windows 10 upgrade icon that is now on my computer

in the bottom right corner of my screen, on the bar, there is now a windows upgrade icon with a yield symbol in it. I did not go onto a windows 10 site and am unable to get rid of it. I have declined the free offer and it is still there.

If this was a product I wanted I would go looking for it and don't appreciate it being placed on my computer.

I added an SD card to my Lumia 950xl.

Once the SD card was added I managed to clear my device storage memory. However Whatsapp has suddenly decided to stop working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled but can no longer access my messages. Every time there's a message I try accessing it and it goes blank. I read that this could be related to the SD card as Whatsapp prefers phone memory. Please help. Thank you.

Why should my next phone be/not be a windows 10 mobile device?

Hey guys! I've been using my Lumia 520 since a little more than 2 years now and I was thinking that I needed a new phone, a little upgrade from my current one.
But I'm very confused. I checked flipkart and saw only Chinese Android phones everywhere with a hint of Samsung here and there. My budget is about 13500 rupees ( about 200USD ). Now, I don't want to buy an Android, specially when I see brands like LeEco. I just hate them, though I don't know why.
But there's hardly any windows 10 mobile device out there! Just a 550 and a 650, I guess..
So pls help me with this. Why should I consider buying a windows phone right now or in the next few months? And why should I not switch to Android ?

Questions about bots....

Can someone please clear up some confusion I have with Microsoft's marketing and naming schemes?

Are bots a product of the Cortana Intelligence Suite (Cortana Bot Framework)? Or are they a Microsoft product (Microsoft Bot Framework) that works in tandem with Cortana's bot features, like the example showed at BUILD? Is the Skype Bot Platform (or SDK, whatever they're calling it) the same thing, but just keeps the focus on Skype? If you build a Skype bot, is it made as a Microsoft (or Cortana) bot that you can connect to Skype and other platforms?

Bots are being marketed on the Skype, Microsoft, and Cortana developer websites, but they all have their own names or portals. Forgive me for being confused but I feel like it's all a mess that I have yet to fully understand.

My Apps (Messaging, Phone, People, Outlook) get RESET randomnly since 14393.3.

My phone model is Lumia 730, and I am on Fast Ring.
Since last week, my phone is behaving oddly. Here's what's been happening:

* Messaging app (and tile) does not update if a message is read/arrived.
* Messages stops sending with an error 'We couldn't send this message'.
* Phone app does not register any calls.
* People app crashes and does not open at all.

Then after a lot of crashes (or if I restart my phone,) phone does the following things:

* Messaging app deletes all threads, and sign out my account.
* Phone app deletes all history and speed dials.
* People app sign out my account and there are 0 contacts shown there.
* All my accounts in Outlook gets deleted.

This has happened at least 6-7 times in last 5 days. I did a Soft Reset, didn't help. Then I did a Hard Reset. didn't help again.

I have posted several feedbacks, but I don't know if anyone else having this problem.
I can't find any help online, and I don't know if it is a hardware issue, OS issue, or something to do with my account.

Any help will be appreciated.

I've been faithful to Windows Phones since the beginning and before too (Nokia). Now I'm tired of waiting for fixing the app gap and the bad quality apps, even more my lumia 950xl is very disappointing specially in design and want to move on and buy an iPhone, if the 7 comes with amoled would be cool btw. Is there any reason to still hanging on w10m? What do you think?

Visual Studio Painfully Slow

While working in C# or XAML, it's nice and speedy.. deploy an app via Debug or Release takes 3-4 minutes! Even an app that is nothing but a grid and two colored boxes (no running code or processes).

Are there any tweaks to speed up the program?

My setup: OS 10.0.10586 x64
Processor: AMD E1-200 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1000 Mhz, 2 cores, 2 Logical Processors
4GB Ram

Heads up ! Download size for AU !! Y U DU DIS MSFT ?? :'( :'(

Because our update provider, dear Microsoft doesn't show how much data is being downloaded or how much free space is required before triggering an update I ran into this.

I thought I had more than 1Gb free in internal. BUT !
This happened after all the download was done and it was preparing for installation.

I wish Microsoft showed download progress (data downloaded/data remaining) along with the progress bar. Or just mention how much data is going to be downloaded before it is triggered.

I managed to make some space. I hit the retry button. It is downloading again. From the start.
At least use the already downloaded data to recheck and download the remaining.
Even store apps show download data progress and download size.

In PC also, there is no way to know how much the size of an update is before you trigger the download. (Remember 7 & 8 ? )
Why are you hiding these basic info's Microsoft ?

Why can't Microsoft be more like Steam. ????????

What would people who are updating phones over their valuable data packs do if such a thing happens to them ?
Maybe it's cheap in other countries. But here it is not.
I am using an unlimited WiFi connection but it's slow. How much time is going to be wasted because of this ?

Of course I jumped to insider fast so that I could have the update on phone early. So that I could download the ISO for the PC when it is released.
I intend to update my PC via ISO since I still don't trust the update delivery system for huge updates.

Time is running out! What to do (Windows 10 free offer)

Situation: I have some Windows 7, 8, 8.1 machines eligible for upgrade but various issues prevent me taking advantage of the free offer right now.

Translation: I waited until the last minute as usual.

Premise for solution: if Windows 10 has ever booted on a machine and activated with a digital entitlement, that same entitlement will be retained for future activations. It's activated for life per Microsoft's original announcement.

Solution:
1. get a USB attached hard drive or SSD.
2. install a product called WintoUSB Free - Best Windows To Go Creator to create bootable Windows 10/8.1/8/7 USB drive!
3. Use it to create a portable version of Win10 from the appropriate ISO of 1511/10586 (home or pro to match the installed OS on your machines) on the USB drive.

Do the next steps on each machine:
4. Plug in the drive and boot from it.
5. Go to settings, update/security, activation.
6. If it doesn't automatically activate, enter the product key found on the sticker or with your retail 7, 8, 8.1 package.
7. This should give you a Digital Entitlement.
8. Shutdown and disconnect the USB drive.
9. Turn the machine back on. It should boot normally to the original OS.

Congratulations, you have registered your "upgrade" on Microsoft's HWID servers and can install Windows 10 for free on that machine whenever you are ready.

I tested this process on the four machines at my office which have weird hardware dongles or line-of-business software which we don't know yet if it's compatible. Everyone else got an upgrade this week or earlier.

I hope this may help someone during the 20 or so hours that are left.

W10M Store Download Counter Not Accurate?

Anybody experiencing a mismatch between the graphical download counter/progress and the numeric one? Or is that how it's supposed to be?! The graphical counter would show the download is almost done but the numerical indicates you still have a long way to reach the full download size of the app. I never know which to believe/rely on now. I get all the store updates as they happen.

How Do I Add Contacts In What's App?

I have no idea why this has always been so difficult, even on android, I could not figure this out. What the heck do I have to do to add contacts to WhatsApp? Specifically international contacts? It seems like all my friends (from brazil) can add me easily, but whenever they give me a phone number to add them... it never works. I have tried saving their numbers as a contact in my "People" section, but they still do not pull up...

Horrible rendering speed for certain websites

As it is shown here. I has been waiting for roughly a minute or two but nothing happens. The page has finished loading (no circling dots) but the content just doesn't show. I'm running the latest Fast Ring Preview version and have Adblock installed. And I have also posted this in the Edge feedback page already, mind you.

Whatsapp video crashes after 50% upload.

Phone dead/not charging

Running a 1520 on Win 10M.
Last nite before I went to bed I put it on a generic USB cable (known working) on my PC. It had about 24% remaining.
This afternoon I went to get it & the battery was completely dead (I assume). I took it off that charger, got a different cable (known working) & hooked it in to my laptop. I left it alone for a few minutes, hit the power button & nothing. I tried a different cable & plugged it into a wall adapter, waited, tried turning it & again nothing. I then tried a different wall charger & again nothing.
Suggestions? Ideas?

Are there any onscreen controls for groove for pc?

Can we change songs or shuffle when groove is playing music but not have the app occupy the whole screen? Such as I'm working on a word file and I don't want to hear the current song, so I just click a small console or box or something to go to the next song? 1- Do you advise me?
2- After factory reset, on which OS I will be? the 10586.495 that I was on before installing Redstone,
or it will take me to win 8.0 or stay on Redstone ?
3- Is there any risk to go back to win 8 and failed to upgrade to win 10 either on insider after releasing the windows 10 Redstone preview as they mentioned in the latest news ?

Is it possible to install an App on WP 10 or 8.1 from a source other than Microsoft 'Store'?

I would like to use a utility that I have installed on my PC that allows me to send SMS via internet using my Phones mobile account. I can receive SMS' fairly easily out in the countryside where I live but sending is difficult without making a phone call from my landline to my mobile phone to get it freshly connected to the tower.

Unable to delete old backups on Nokia 925 and unable to do new backup

I need to backup and restore an old nokia 925 but it will not back up (last backed up a year ago) - looked at fixes and all say to delete old backups but this failed too. Seems to be a problem with One Drive but that appears to be working fine. Not my phone just a colleagues. Any help would be appreciated. Tried with and without connection to wifi and the Microsoft account is active and can be logged into.

black screen instead of menu

Hello,
i've seen a lot of posts about black screens problem and tried everything except the windows tool (because would erase my data and i can't make a back up).
My problem is the following: when i restart the phone, i have normal lockscreen image. if i go for the menu, it's completely black exception the data and network symbols. i can also open the network/bluetooth tab but if i click on any relink full black again.
I tried restart, soft restart, the thing of pressing volume botton up/down after the exclamation mark, left in charge whole night.
Any other option, or there is a way i can make a back up without being able to click on it from the menu?

Screen casting when in continuum mode

On a normal pc we have software that can record a video of what happens on the screen but I wonder how we can do this for devices that have continuum? I'm guessing an app will have to be developed but is there one already?

Camera and continuum

I'm curious to know how or if the camera can work when a continuum enabled device like the 950 is in continuum mode

If the 950 is connected with the dock and a screen, what happens when launching camera app? Will it launch and show on the big screen or just show on the phone screen?

I don't have any continuum enabled phone so I can't test this on my own

Transferring Data and Photos to New Computer: One Drive

Transferring data to a new computer. Have everything backed up on a hard drive. How to I copy this over and sync with onedrive?

Dropbox was easy and smooth. But can't figure out how to do it on onedrive without having to re-download everything - which seems ridiculous.

my dad wants to buy a new phone

hi, my dad owns a three year old 1520. the screen has started giving him problems. the guys at the repair shop have asked him to pay up 16000/- INR, and also suggested that he buys a new phone. he doesn't want a super expensive phone this time around. should he opt for the lumia 640xl or the lumia 650?

wHY DO I have to select "Retry" 5 times to delete files from a windows 10 folder

I log on as Mark & Jan with administrator privileges. I go into windows explorer and select a file from a folder. I right hand click and select "delete. The message "Retry or Cancel" appears. I have to select "Retry" 5 times. On the 5th time it will delete the file. What can I do to fix this please so I can delete the file on the first attempt. It happens when I select "Delete" or Shift "Delete" Many thanks. Mark

slow recharge if battery is not totally drained

If the battery on my 950 is completely discharged then it takes not much more than an hour to recharge it. But eg if 10% power back then it takes nearly two hours to recharge it. how can it be?
