How can I make the badges show (indicating new emails) on my Microsoft Office tiles?

Using Microsoft Outlook, I would like to know how many new emails I have on the tile on my front page. (e.g., right now I have 48 new emails and there is no badge or any indication I have 45 new, unread emails.
